for any of those that have some really nice systems in ur cars/trucks there is a soundoff at e-town on sunday(thought it is a huge import event any vechals are allowed to compete in the soundoff) soundoff runs approx from 9am till 3-4 pm though u must be inside the gates before 10 or 12 noon(cant really remeber)
ill be taking the rs with 4 12's and 2 1000 watt amps looking to put out over 155 db and hopefully bringing home trophy and some prize money

its not looking to good for me right now i was borrowing a camro box from a friend with 2 jl subs and a 1000 watt amp
well he gets here this morning throw the stuff in + what i already have in the car
soon as we get to 3/4 volume the car stalls
to much drian on my batt and alt (pretty much a 150 amp draw just from the amplifiers)
it literally kills the battery and stalls the car after a few good bass hits
i really need a 200 amp alt and a good deep cycle battery to run this setup
so i may just go with the one 1000 watt amp and 2 12's as the car is able to handle that kind of power draw with no problems, cause i dont think ill be able to get my hands on a 200 amp alt today

well i was able to pull 149 db on a handheld meter today with the 2 12's with the subs wired into a 6 ohm load,so ill only have to see what happenes tom

what a ****** day, we get there and i wire the subs into a 8 ohm load, so the judge comes over and says we have to put u into a modifed class cause ur sub enclosure is past the rear of the door frames, now most of the guys in modified run 4 or more subs and a few thosand watts,so i know right off the bat this isnt gonna be good.so i found out they have a new class that goes on just then number of subs u have.1 = sb1 2 = sb2 etc,now there sno limit on amplifier power so im thinking this is a good idea WRONG. instead of going by peak spl, they take an avg of ur spl over 30 seconds, well here swhat happened.first time up i pick a song with about 3 seconds between bass hits
i start up with 140.2 db but due to the delay between bass hits i end the run with 122.3 db :(.so by now im 2.2 db outa first place and really pissed.so i park the car and rewire to a 2 ohm load (about an extra 400 watts of power now) and go make another run.now i think im set.well anyways i start the run at 148.7 db except i had left the trunk unlatched and it blew open during my 30 seconds so my avg spl droped to 131.1. good enough for first in y class but dq'ed due to the trunk opening.so i wait a while to see what the reamining cars hit and after a while 1st n the class is 137.6.so i give it one last shot with a diff cd(big mistake) i end up with a peak of 145.1 but an avg of 134.5. 4th place for the event, even though i didnt win i did manage to get my car into a car club, and i really cant be that mad cause 148 db for a car with 2 12's is exceptionally loud.but ive deff got some work to do before the next competition in 3 weeks. i took a ****load of pics and ill post thm up sometime tongiht or tom

120 db = 747 jumbo jet at takeoff
http://hearingtest.com/images/audiogram3.jpg
here i found that for a better understanding of how loud

from how far away, cuz that makes a huge difference from my experiences

i dont kow how far away when they say a jumbo jet is 120 db
edit just dbl checkred 747 jet ranges from 120-135 db still dosent give at what distance though im assuming within 50 ft

Tsar

well you do realize that distance places a big role when a jumbo jet takes off, **** my airplane shook everytime it would start its take off while i was waiting for my clearance and it wasnt even a 747. now if you stand back 300 feet and listen to it then its not even the bad, i was just wondering thats all.

its 120 @ 100 ft

so techincally your car would be able to silence a 747? interesting. i mean you would be able to hear the jet take off if you stand next to your car.

not next to but inside the car db levels of a car system fall of greatly once ouside a car
140+ inside would read about 115- outside the windows 90 db 50 ft from car 75 db 100ft etc

ohh they measure it inside the car? i thought it was while you're standing outside...ahhh im such a newb

yeah and its actualyl measured by preasure level inside the car, sound wave actually presurize the car.its pretty complicated but preasure level directly reflects decibal level.its done this way to prevent ppl from cheating by throwing a high powered tweeter near the location of the microphone/preasure sensor , though a car measured in this manner may hit 140 db, thats only the decibal level of the bass, the actually db level of the car(bass/mids/highs) can and in most cases is actually higher then the spl/db reading at one of these events
