i am sure most of you are like me and are perfectly aware of who does and doesn't live in your neighborhood.
i was jsut outside and i saw someone driving really slow, like 5mph, down my street. being that i didn't recognize the car as being local and couldn't think of any good reason why someone woudl drive so slow down my street i stood and watched it. as teh car got closer i saw the driver looking around at the houses and he wasn't anyone i recognized.
as he got near the end of my driveway he saw me standing there staring at him and he had the balls to stop the car and talk **** through his window.
he asked if i had a problem, i said "no, are you looking for someone?" he then told me to mind my own business. my response, "this is my street, you creeping down it is my business."
at that point he looked like he was getting ready to get out of the car and since i was standing right at the door of my garage i reached behind my compressor and pulled out a 5ft shale bar, it only weighs about 25lbs :D
he continued trying to look hard as he rolled up the window and pulled away, now driving faster than when he pulled into the neighborhood.
i got his plate number and it will be passed along to a few cop friends of mine tonight. :)

I do the same thing on my street except i don't use any bar's , I have a nice handy spring loaded Baton that's usually with me at all times.
It's good to live in a Neighnorhood like that i have a lot of nosey neighbor's which also comes in handy, So handy they even call my house when someone is either stopped by my car out in the street or someone on foot standing around it, Even my girlfriends neighborhood in Little ferry is the same way except they actually will yell for people to get the **** out of the neighborhood LOL
Well handled NJSPEEDER

i am kind of protective of my street and all of my friends know it. my neighbors are mostly cool, even the ones that aren't keep an eye out. it isn't a fancy place by any stretch, middle class burbs at their finest though.
i am by no means looking for a fight, but that doesn't mean i ain't ready for one.

I hate people trolling through neighborhoods; they're either looking for stuff to steal, or kids to prey on. Always keep an eye out, and make sure the cars and houses are locked down tight! Good job on catching the plate, I hope the cops find the guy and have a reason to question his actions.

Are you allowed to kill anyone who steps on your property in N.J., or is that a no go?

Ian

if they enter your house and threaten your life, you can kill them. but if you attempt to kill them and they make it outside, you're in trouble.

That's a pretty weak law. Can't even defend your property.

Nope, you can't do anything in NJ without serious risk of being sued. You just gotta make sure you're in good with the Soprano's that live up the street and you'll be fine!

i am not really worried about it either way. i know enough cops and sourt officials around here that any account of the incident woudl be written up in a very beneficial manner. :)
you are allowed to physically stop someone from trying to take or damage personal property and you are allowed to physically remove people from your property. you jsut aren't allowed to kill them unless you "feel" threatened. to my way of thinking, since i don't know the guy, if he threatens me i woudl take it seriously and beat the living **** out of the bastard.

my "neighborhood" is very tight knit. those of you who were down here the other day know why its in quotes, but there's about 7 families on my end of the road, 4 of us are pretty close, so we always keep an eye out for peoples stuff. then again, if anyone can find their way down here they should be able to get something out of it

+1

If someone unlawfully enters your house you are well within your legal rights to shake them loose the mortal coil. However, if you mortally wound them inside your house and with their dying breath they make it out of your house, you ass is getting sued. Those laws are messed up, that is why I would suggest one of these:

Put a few rounds of 00 or 000 buck in 'ol painless there and then proceed to put it in BGs chest, I don't see too good of a chance of him making it out of anywhere, Man, I gotta get me one of those, my range has a used one for sale, maybe I should look into it.

Last i heard N.J. doesn't have any self defense law's
In N.J. The only thing that will justify self defense in your house is if someone either has a weapon in their hands or they tell you they have a weapon, And if you kill them in self defense there is still no law that protect's you from that and you could still be brought up on charge's.

About 5 years ago the guy down the street from me came home to 2 guy's in his house and he beat the **** out of them and restrained them until the police got there
He got sued by the 2 guys for 20 some thousand dollars and lost in court.
that is really messed up.
4 years ago a girlfriend of mine was a go-go dancer and this guy i didn't even know attacked me in a parkinglot of the bar she worked at, i ended up dislocating his jaw in the scuffle
And 2 years ago he tried to sue me in court for his injuries. Even though i did win the case it still amazes me with the **** people can sue you for

i think you guys have some information mixed up.
new jersey gives its citizens the same rights to defend themselves as any other state. location has little, if anything, to do with it.
if you, your property, your life, or the life of someone around you is threatened you have the right to defend.
one thing is that you can never give up or lose your right to sue under any circumstance. even signing a waiver of liability does not release your right to sue someone for misfortune or injury. that is how criminals get over for what they do.
it has nothing to do with state laws, just the way that the american legal system works.
