Welp, the carb on my AMX took a dump, so I'm using the down time to finally rebuild my T Type's front end. I'm adding quite a few pieces that should give it some pretty awesome handling. Parts being added are:
Westin 2 inch dropped spindles from a 2nd gen Camaro. The spindles are taller than the stock ones, which gives better front end geometry. Braking will be upgraded w/ cross drilled rotors and Hawk brake pads. Suspension wise, I'm going with Pole Position tubular upper control arms with solid bushings, Spohn chrome moly tubular lower control arms with poly bushings, Howe precision "Nascar" spec ball joints, QA-1 coil over shocks, "anti bumpsteer" shafts w/ outer rod ends to replace the conventional tie rod ends, a Flaming River 12-1 quick ratio steering box, a carbon fiber drive shaft, a Hellwig front sway bar and Roh wheels with BFG Comp T/A tires. Once I'm through with all the rebuilding I will be off to my brother's shop, where it will all get dialed in on his alignment rack. It should be fun running down ricer and Euro crap in a 20 year old "turbo box car."

I don't want to jinx myself by stating an estimated time of completion...so lets just say hopefully I will be done during a month that begins with the letter "J." :)

Nice. As soon as my TA is done I am getting a Ttype or GN.
Already got the Ok by the 'rents. Only stipulation is that the TA has to be done first.

Bob, don't forget the 2nd-gen spindles require new 11" rotors and D52 calipers; bigger than the stock G-body stuff. Why not go for 2" dropped Impala SS spindles though, and put 12" brakes on it?

Ive wanted to learn more about B-Body spindle/12 inch brakes set up. I heard that you need bigger ball joints, etc etc for it all though.

Steve,
The reason I went w/ the F body spindles is because I had them sitting around. Figured I'd follow the old saying "If ya got 'em, smoke 'em." :)
I picked up the new rotors and calipers for a good price ta' boot.

UBG, I hear ya on doing everything budget oriented. My whole car is a lesson in budget-spending! :) Good luck with your G-body!

Not really. If you go for a '91-'96 B-body spindle, it'll bolt right in place of your 2nd-gen 11" stuff. '96-only limos and taxis/copcars got a larger balljoint, so stay away from those when shopping for 12" spindles. After you locate a suitable pair, just get '88-up 3rd-gen 1LE 12" rotors and use the good 'ol D52 calipers and you're good to go for having cheap big brakes on the 2nd gen.

Hrm....
Where can you get the 1LE rotors from? Will places like Autozone or Advance have them? and D52 Calipers?
I also want to convert the drums on the back of the car to disk as well, but I might just save up for a total kit, some nice 13/12 inch set up.

Regular parts stores should be able to get the 1LE 3rd gen rotors, but search online if you want slotted/crossdrilled/whatever. The D52 caliper is just the part number I've always heard it called. When you hit the parts store, cross-reference the caliper numbers for a '91 Caprice and your '72; I think they're the same.

Steve is correct on ball joint sizes & applications. D52 pads are stock Caprice & Camaro pads – some say D61 pads will fit with the bigger rotors, but them you might need bigger calipers off a truck. That changes the hose end too (banjo bolt is bigger).

I’m doing the 12” brakes on the front of my 77 Z28 right now. I cheaped out on rotors for now as I am waaay over my budget. I got regular (not slotted) 1LE Wagner rotors from rockauto.com for about $43 each. That $120 or so bucks I saved can go towards some good pads + shoes, probably Porterfield R4S. Those 1LE rotors come with metric studs too, so you might need new lugs or need to replace the studs. The Napa part number for the studs is 641-1013. You need a 35/64ths drill bit to open the holes up.

I got the Howe ball joints for the lower arms. Did you buy the control arms yet? If not, check out http://www.scandc.com/. Call & ask for Marcus. He knows those cars upside down.
