Need some advise, this will be my first header + ORY installation (i've done catbacks tho) ... I have the locking bolts, 02 extensions, etc etc, basically I have everything to get me rolling on the installation. Any tips, pointers, knucklesmashing locations (looks like theres gonna be plenty  ) . Going on the car is Pacesetter LT's, ORY, and Hooker catback. Thanks
have fun with LT's instalation  no way i would have patience to do those.

:werd: on the help, im the closest
Most likely gonna start installing Tuesday after memorial day cuz I'm taking my car to a show in upstate NY next weekend. I figured I get all the advise prior to it. Also, im gonna buy some air tools since I got a 100psi compressor set up, to make everything a little less nerve-and-knuckle-racking :-D
we can unscrew stuff from my car

noah if you work on the car at night i can come. i finish work at 5. might as well do motor mounts and spark plugs while we're at it
Yea I had the plugs planned out, but didnt think of motor mounts. Question, gonna go with TR55's, but theres 3 types, the tr55gp, tr55, and tr55IX, which ones do i go with?
tr55 are regular plugs, gp are platinum and i dunno what the other ones are. so what ever floats your boat i guess. i got tr55's but you know im just a slow LT1
edit*** tr55ix are iridium.

We did Bill's in his backyard. I forgot what he used to get the car up that high, but I'm sure he'll chime in soon and let you know.

Well, if anything ... i wouldnt be able to lift the car high enough cuz my driveway is all rocks, maybe about 1 1/2 feet in the air but thats about it. I dont feel like spending money for pro installation that can actually be used for suspension work
an engine hoist will get the car high enough

i think we can rent one.

easiest way to get a lot of clearance is to jack up the front of the car and put it on stands. then jack up the rear and put the back tires on cinder blocks or another set of stands under the rear.
then go back to the front and jack it up higher by putting a block on the jack and using large jack stands like they sell for trucsk under the front.
if you do this right you cna have enough room for kasey to walk under the car......ok.....bad example :p

Can't do that in my driveway then... jackstands will just sink in the rocky driveway.

I live on a main county road with no place to park on the side of the road :-\ Ill ask my brother if I can use the front of his house which is kinda on a secluded road about a 1/8th mile from me.
Just talked to my bro and he said its cool to use the front of his house.

I had my car jacked up a good 2-3 feet high up front. I'm not sure if you can lift the engine on the LS1 cars and install from the top or not. Are the headers the emission's ones with the AIR and EGR fittings? Those are tougher because you lose the ability to wiggle them around. Plan on 2-3 days just in case something goes wrong and you need to replace some other parts that get broken.

yeah definately. that happened when we installed jons car. LT1 almost spells FTL backwards
LS1 emmisions air tubes are easy as hell. 2 10mm bolts directly on the manifold, and then the tubes easily swing/flex up and away. I did shortys from the bottom without problems, but i never did LS1 LTs, so IDK. but i dont think you can do them from the top.

The problem with emission's LT's is that the fittings stick out of the headers and gives you a lot less room to angle them up into place. The 96-97 cars have the longest AIR tube sticking up so they are probably the hardest. The LS1 cars look the easiest but I'm sure Bill will have something to say about that.

nice post updates tommorow night. run to a auto parts store in the morning and throw some poly motor mounts in there while your at it
Yea im pretty much doing everything in 1 shot .... plugs and all, so its out of the way. Mounts might be a little tough to get cuz the three good autopart stores that are in my area are closed on Sundays. Im starting around 8AM and I'm estimating an ending time of 7:30PM.

mounts are a important mod. since NY is all open you want me to get you a set in the morning and meet me somewhere. you guys can start dissassembling meanwhile

took me about 8 hours to do mine I think, ummm as far as the most difficult part? probably the last spark plugs on the passenger side.. MAN that was a bitch and a half. Pacesetters go up nice and easy, just take your time, and keep yourself in a good mood.. worst thing you can do is start getting all cranky and then start breaking things :)
