Newbie To Track, Need Advice(shift points, launching, etc.)

So I'll more than likely be making my first trip to the track this friday night. I know the tree and things pretty well from being there the real problem is I don't know my car as well.

What are the ideal shift points in my car? Also what should I be launching at?

My car is a 96 Z28 M6 completely stock except for a cat-back, intake, shifter, air-foil and skip shift eliminator.

My tires are BFG G-Force KDW with a little less than 1000 miles on them.

Any tips and or advice for racing would be much appreciated.

Note: Just so everyone knows I'm not as big of an idiot as I may sound :lol:

I've been shifting around 5,100 RPMS considering I've learned that our tachs can be off by 300 to 400 RPMS.

For launching I'm assuming I should launch somewhere around 1,700 RPMS to avoid lossing traction to much.

Once again not sure if thats exactly correct but let me know what you think.

step2: watch the guys who you can tell have been around a while

when you get to the track put the front tires up to about 50psi and drop the rears to 27-30ish. try to avoid going much below 25-27psi in the rear as the tire face will actually start to cup and you will lose contact patch.
as far as launch i here about most of the stockish LT1 guys going between 2500-3000 on street tires and fading the clutch for best results.

test different staging and launch techniques to see what best fits you and the car. you can get a general idea of how to best drive the car based on what others have done, but you will have to find your own comfort zone to get your own best result. :)

you'll have to feel out the track, try leaving at ~2k the first time and change it from there. bog = more rpm/spin = less...5100 is too low, i take first out to 6k and then redline from then on
