matt a short set of box end wrenches will be ur best friend on the manifold swap.if or a set of very shallow 3/8's drive swivel sockets.one word of advice if ur gonna use a swivel socket wrap the joints in ducttape, keeps u from bending the swivel to far and slipping off and busting ur knuckels

problem with box end wrenches is I cant get any leverage,i can tell its going to be verry hard but If I do an hours work each night it should be done by the end of summer...lol

slip another wrench over the end of the wrench on the manifold bolts, instant way to get more leverage,or use a short piece of pipe over the wrench if u have the room to do so

I forgot how to do that, but it doesnt matter my tools suck once again 14 to small 15 to big..I need to put the TWO bolts I got out yesterday back in because tomorrow we are taking my car to get the cut out installed and to see about fixing the exhaust leak from where the slip fit is.. O well Im gonna ask my grampa if he wants to help me with the intake manifold when I get the car back.

you mean my mom? yeah she should but Id just go crazzy cause I have the worst tools. I could do it, but Im to scared to take things off to get them outa the way, I would have no way to fix it if something went wrong..

matt dont worrk about ****ing anything up u have what 2 years before u can drive, the biggest ****up u could do right now would be to drop a nut or bolt into the engine, and btw try a 9/16's wrench on thos bolts :)

matt, 9/16, got to advance and buy the cheap 120 peice set and be done with it, u will need SAE for most of ur car but also some metric

project89

all the engine bolts are standard sizes, with the exception of some of the accesory bolts some of those are metric

I got about all the bolts off! the carb off, all the wires out of the way, I just need to know how to get the whole distributer off. I think thats the only thing I need to get off besides an alternater bracket, wich I also cant get off.

u can prob get the dizz hold down bolt with a wrench or ur gonna need a distrubtor wrench(i got a snap on one off of ebay for 15$ brand new, had one scratch in the chrome) and the alt should be 2 bolts, one on the intake and another by the water pump but im going off memory, i did my top end rebuild on my 83 t/a back in 02

WayFast84
06-09-2006, 09:49 PM
i know I cant get the one by the water pump off

and on the coil or distriputer cap or what ever it says tacometter is that were I would wire one up? can I pick up a tac for like 15 bucks some place?

camaro2you
06-10-2006, 09:35 AM
yes it is and why would you want a tach dont you have one?

WayFast84
06-10-2006, 09:48 AM
nope no tach here, I guess its the price to pay for having a factory v8 firebird though

well I got everything off but parts arent matching and the back wont go on because of a peice in the way.

If I ordered a action plus for 1957-86 small block chevy with out egr. that would work with my car right?

never mind my DUMB but awsome freind couldnt get it on and had me hold the distributer cap up, once I was like switch I pulled the intake back off put the gaskets on, and dropped it on right! got everything connected, I went to crank it and the fuel line ruptured... Im pretty sure i dont have everything on right,

alot!! what should I do? theirs only 92 thousand miles on it, and wasnt driven from 94-04 when we got it then driven up the street 4 houses, then like around my driveway and on lawn, then spark plugs and a oilchange and it was runing like a champ.

o yeah and my freind cant work on a car when its just him, I cant work on a car when its just me, me and him working on one car is the equivalent of 3/4's of a regular car person. Tomorrow we are working on his 69 vw bug kit cars brakes then hes gonna let me drive it in a parking lot, so i can relearn stick.
