Well, I got all the reason to believe in the whole 6-6-06 thing today. Prepare yourself for a long, hard to explain story...

Well, being that I work for my town as a garbage man, I got the job through my dad cuz hes a driver there. So, today we get done... look at the quick sketch of my workplace...

http://img428.imageshack.us/img428/2528/trucks2xs.gif

The red squares are our personal vehicles. The circled one is my dads. Now, my dad was driving the "Garbage Truck", and had it parked there while it was still running to drop off stuff in his personal vehicle and stuff. His loader, name is Javi, was on the driver side of the garbage truck, reaching behind the cab to grab a garbage-picked scooter. While this is happening, my dad walks over toward the "recycling center" where the yard guy is working... yesterday my dad lent him our air compressor and he went to get it back. So he got the air compressor and wheeled it all the way back to his personal vehicle. Then Javi puts the scooter where the "X" is in front of the garbage truck, sits down, and tries to fix it. So my dad walks in the sanitation shop for his new DEP# decals which have to be replaced every year or so. He comes out and removes the old sticker with rubbing alchohol and puts the new one on (on the driver side I might add, behind the cab) . Note, Javi is still sitting where the X is, trying to fix the scooter. My dad walks around the back of the truck to throw the backing paper of the decal out in the garbage truck hopper (where we throw garbage into) . My dad then walks along the driver side into the cab... he then checks both mirrors, pushes in the airbrake (and in these trucks, it takes 5 seconds for the airbrake to release) , then another 5 seconds to grind the shifter into first gear (thats how big trucks are lol) . Javi was still sitting where not even my dad can see him... my dad pulls forward about 10 feet and it seems like nothing, but what my dad was trying to do was allign the truck so he can back it up to where all the dirt is on the bottom of the picture, cuz thats where we park the trucks... he runs Javi over not knowing he was there, dragged him 10 feet up, and then my dad puts it in reverse and goes back about 2 feet and one of Javis buddies that got him the job started frantically banging on the driver door telling him to stop. Javi got caught under the back tandum between both axles. Blood was everywhere, everyone ran outside (there were no witnesses, only Javi's buddy) ... the rear tire was about 2 inches away from crushing his skull, and the rear driver tire was ontop of Javi's foot. There was no way to get the truck tire off his foot without hitting something else on him, so we inched it up slowly and got it free.... he was airlifted to morristowwn hospital where I got word that his leg is suprisingly not broken, but they are doing 4 hour head surgery, and we dont know why. But all the state investigators that were there overlooked the evidence, and my dad wasnt at fault. Even if Javi was sitting exactly 14 feet in front of the garbage truck, he still wouldnt of been seen. Im not saying its Javi's fault either, but who would put a scooter together in front of a running garbage truck? Then hear the grinding of 1st gear, just enough time to stand up and say soemthing or get out of the way. My dad is really really shaken up, I thought I would just share that. When I saw Javi under that truck, his face was covered in blood, u couldnt see skin... he had road rash on his right shoulder, and his shirt was ripped. Awful day, my adrenaline is still going ....

Wow...I hope he'll be OK. I hope your dad will be OK, too....that can't be an easy thing to deal with.

I wouldn't associate that with 6/6/6, that's just plain stupidity. Why would anyone sit in front of a running truck? Is a free scooter worth losing your life? And now your dad has to suffer because this guy was so stupid. Common sense is a lost thing nowadays!

That's some story. I hope your father and Javi come out of it all right. However, I don't think it has much to do with 6/6/6. Like you said, he should've been able to hear the truck going into first. He must have been zoned out/daydreaming or something.

Well, an update. #1, my dad was cleared of any wrongdoing according to investigators today. He is not at fault. Javi just underwent 2 surgeries and is going on his 3rd and final. First surgery was to fix bone damage above the right eye, along with nerve damage on his cheek which was successful. That was a result from getting wacked with the plowframe in the front of the truck. Second surgery was to fix his toes, two of them were crushed, that was a success. Third surgery is going to be his shoulder, cuz the front tire of the garbage truck ran it over. Hes in fair condition, and no internal injuries. He will be out a very long time. Honestly, i dont think he will ever be back to work pending his feelings about the situation.

And yes, it wasnt really smart to sit in front of a running garbage truck that weighs 39,000 pounds empty. He is very lucky to be alive.

Wow...I can't believe what your dad must be going through, even though he was legally cleared of any wrongdoing.

Update, me and my dad went to see him at the hospital today. He was in a very bubbly mood lol which is a good sign. They moved him out of ICU into his own room which is a good sign. He told us first hand that his foot isnt broken, but his leg is... arm is fractured along with his thumb... his neck has 2 broken bones, and he had nerve damage on the right side of his face, which looks like a mess cuz hes got staples, cuts, gashes, and alot of antibiotic cream. He's doing great tho, he was laughing and stuff, but he was laying still. Thats part of the recovery process for my dad, and he was great to hear Javi say "Its not your fault".
