So what fire extinguishers do you have for your garage, and in your car?

the kind that attaches to my house. works great outside the car too, however, not incredibly portable.

well I need a few like 2 normal sized for the garage 1 medium for car, one big one for kitchen and 2 little ones one for up stairs and one for basement. I need brands and places to pick them up.They need to be c02, and I need the lightest weight possible one for the car.

why do you need one in your car? unless you expect it to burst into flames

i dont see how anyone can think that having a small fire extinguisher in your car is pointless. they only cost around 15-30 bucks and are cheap to refill. its not about thinking that your p.o.s. is gonna go up in flames, its about getting into an accident and theres a fire and you need to put it out. 6 years ago i was in an accident and a fire started in my engine bay, my whole car wouldve gone up in flames if someone didnt pull over and let me use their fire extinguisher. ive carried one in my car ever since.

I have one in my car. Its not a super small one like those APC ricer ones that wont put out a waste paper basket, but its a good middle sized red one.

Why do I have it? Why not? God forbid something catches fire, I can at least attempt to put it out.

As far as the garden hose, thats just as bad of an idea. Water against a electrical fire isnt to smart, or oil based.

If you really want to do it right, a halon based system is best. A few companys make them, safecraft being one. They are NHRA approved and the containers are DOT approved.

Ever see that vid online of the Z06 having the nitrous fire? Yeah like 10 mins later the track crew casually strolled over with a fire extinguisher. It wasnt even past the 60 foot mark.

Anyones cars can go up at any time..things can go wrong. Especially true in cars that are modified (especially by people who shouldnt be touching a wrench).

But whatever, its your cars, and your money going into them. Think about it.

Lets all grow up, all the kid was doing was asking for a suggestion. ;x

Peace.

*EDIT*

Your car doesnt hafta be a race car to go up in flames. More street cars burn each year then race cars. And im not talking about your grocery getter toyotas. I mean kids "Race cars". Yanno, your typical home made this home made that compilation of stuff. And no i have nothing against custom fabbing stuff, hell I love it, but most of the time **** is made and done without regard to safety. People just want(think it will) make the car better.

Thnk about it.

I see no reason not to have a fire extinguisher in your car never know what could happen. Im puttin one in all three of my cars and my dad even wants me to put one in the vette for him.

Yeah fire extinguishers are a great idea, I learned first hand today! I had to run all the way inside to the kitchen to grab a fireextinguisher, a fire extinguisher that didnt work...by the time the firedepartment was called I put the fire out but the car was smoking like hell..If I had a extinguisher in the garage it woulda been nothing, but it took about 2 1/2 min to go out of the garage(staying away from the fire)into the kitchen and back through the garage for the extinguisher not to work, then to the hose and putting it out. Trust me right now, I fire in your car will make you 10x more nervous then a regualr car accident.

lol, i suck at the mods period

my friend caught his corolla on fire and we couldnt put it out. so we called the FD and they came and chopped up the dashboard, broke the windshield and flooded the inside of the dashboard with water....it still didnt go out for another 30 minutes.

I have several halon extinguishers at the house.
A couple dry chem ones too.
CO2 entinguishers at mom's house in Vermont.

My bird has caught on fire before..... once with me in it while driving.... do I carry one in the car now? Nope. Is it smart? nope.

100% agree! After seeing a friends car burn to the ground when some type of failure to the stock plastic fuel line or connector broke and pump fuel onto the hot engine and it burned to the ground. that was enough for me to go purchased one the next day! I don't have it mounted to my dash, it's on the roll cage behind the seat within easy reach just in case I ever need it.
