Running lean....

So for a while now my car has been running like crap which I associated with bad cats. I always get the rotten egg smell when going up hills or accelarating hard plus the extreme loss of power. So I ordered QTP headers/ORY to get rid of the silly cats (if they ever come damn back order crap). The problem now is that code P0171 started to pop today which is "System running lean(bank 1)", and this is a couple days after I put in a new granatelli MAF. So my question is what should I do now? I already put the stock MAF back in and cleared the code to see if it would pop again..... and nothing yet. My main question is once I get the headers/ory and maf all in should i chance driving the thing if its going to be running lean (I was planning on getting it tuned right after), or should i get a tune now with the MAF only and then get it retuned after the headers/ory go in? I really don't want to mess the engine up because thats more money then I wish to spend at the moment :)

IMO: go back to the stock MAF for now and if you wish to keep the Granatelli put it on right before you get tuned. i wouldnt run the car very long untuned with long tubes or that MAF, especially if your car is already running lean.

another thing ryan, Long tubes + ORY + loudmouth = unbearably loud. you need to invest in a new catback

I'm going to see how it sounds first if its bad i was going to get one of those chambered bullet mufflers like rich has on his and have it welded in that thing had a deep sound but pretty quiet... And yea the stock MAF is on and staying on til the tune

i have only heard bad things about them. but i have one in my car that i got for free and my car is running awesome with it.

well i can tell you for the short time i had the thing on there it felt like a new car... not only did it feel like it had more power but it had quicker throttle response and seemed like it climbed through the rpms quicker I was really impressed with it.

eventually the computer will adapt to the new readings of the maf and the performace increase will start to decrease. this is all what i have heard but o well. i say it cant hurt anymore then it can help

But is there anything actually different about them? Is it the same size as stock? Same configuration, etc? There has got to be something different about them....

a little bigger then stock. its plastic and flows real well, and is calibrated to read lower then stock (to allow more air into the motor, hence the leaning out)

I always just recommend the stocker...aftermarket mafs seem to cause more problems then anything.
