with this (http://www.buyanad.com/ViewItem.asp?ID=97505&fromsite=auto)?

I need opinions. I'm starting to get sick of my Cherokee. I usually dont hang on to cars this long anyway, so I'm really getting bored  . I dont want to spend more than $2500 and ex-cop cars are pretty damn cheap and they're rwd with LT1 power. anyway, let me know what you all think of my idea.

EDIT FROM MY ORIGINAL POST TO EXPLAIN WHY.

Go for it, sell the jeep, get the cruiser, get the cheapest maaco paint job. Fix everything wrong with it, Probably the optispark.. then maybe look out for a cheap Thirdgen, in case your intrested in a burgandy gta heres a link to one Under $1000 http://www.bargainnews.com/viewad.cfm?Show_Notepad=Yes&bnAd_ID=90714339&TheDealer=873 drive the caprice till the next fbody is fixed then sell the caprice.

Was that serious enough?

buy it! 9C1 caprices own, just peel all the chrome off and throw some rims on it and you basically have an impala, only difference is the cop cars got the green heavy duty raditator hoses, otherwise the 9C1 and impala suspensions are the same:)

The only bad part is cops beat the ever living **** out of those cars. I used to work for our town DPW and the mechanic was trying to fix stuff on them everyday because they were run so hard. Just expect things to break when you buy it its probably not going to be a really reliable car.

Chit, if you don't buy that ex cop car I just might! It's less then 2 g, and you are a mechanic, so get cracking on it! Then I will be able to mooch a ride from you! :)

it wasn't, I was thinking about 9C1's all day  . BUT, you did break your end of the bargain :?

and they cant be that unreliable, I saw a lot on Ebay with 190K miles and more that were still chugging along.

My wife would drop kick me right in the face if I come home w/ any more cars, so ya don't have to worry about me buying the copper car. Plus I need to sink a few more bux into the Caddy.
SO GO BUY IT!!!

I say go for it Ian. The few 9C1 cars that I have seen have been 3.42 posi cars....

And if not, I think Tim still has a 3.42 posi from a Caprice sitting in "the garden" :)

ex-cop cars have potential.

if you do decide to buy one, how much are you looking to get for your jeep?

maroman88
06-21-2006, 07:31 AM
as far as miles go, most old cop cars go on to serve as taxi's which get drivin up into the 300k miles range in cities where pot holes are bigger then fbodys

as far as i know the only cop cars that were stick were a few mustangs back in the late 70's early 80's i believe and they stopped doing that because it was to hard for the cop to handle shifting doing the radio and all that jaz at the same time.

NJSPEEDER

didn't you have a nice thirdgen lined up before? it was an 80's T/A if i remember correctly. what happened to that?

Ian
06-21-2006, 12:27 PM
I still have that T/A lined up. the caprice wouldn't be a "project" car, it would be my daily driver.

im pretty sure all years the B4C camaro cop car was made it was available in stick....

NJSPEEDER
06-21-2006, 03:43 PM
he is talking about a caprice, not an f-body cop car.
all caprices were automatics. really you can get away with a normal caprice adn jsut junkyard in most of the better stuff if really you want it. that would make the purchase price cheaper, leaving more money for that T/A :)

Ian
06-21-2006, 05:29 PM
money for the T/A is not a problem if I sell my jeep to fund the 9C1. and I'd rather not piece the car together, I'd just buy a 9C1 in the first place to avoid all the work

Ian, just make sure that car really has the 5.7 in it. A LOT of town vehicles only came with the L99 4.3L V8, and the two motors look the same. Look for VIN code P in the 8th position to make sure it's got the LT1. Also, it should have a 3.08 rear, and most likely a posi. Look for G80 code in the SPID label on the trunk (you'll also find LT1 or L99 there too).

Man, now I miss my '96 Impala SS. :(

some company used to do T56 swaps on LT1 b-bodies. i dont know if they are still around. they were in DC i think
