Does anyone know where I can find a tutorial or diagram on how to make up a manual fan switch?

Instead of spending the 70 dollars on the SLP one.

take the lead to the coolant temp sensor and hook it up to a ground... that will turn the fan on, to make a switch you lead the line that hooks up to the CTS and hook it up to a switch from your local auto parts place, the other end of the switch will go to a good ground... the way it works through your ECM is when the car gets up to heat, the computer grounds that circuit and turns on the fans, so with the switch you are basically completing the ground on the circuit whenever you want it to ground

i did this on a 91, but i see you have a 96 so this might be different, but as far as i know its the same

take the lead to the coolant temp and hook it up to a ground... You mean fan switch (like on the 3rd gens). That is probably not a good idea for the actual CTS.

I think the ECM completes the ground side of the relays in that car, so it should not be hard to ground that circuit. Does your car have 2 relays or 3 for the fans (does one fan turn full speed at lower temps, or both at slower speeds).

Why do you even want to do this? Do you have a cooling problem or is this for cool down at the track?

$35 for this? http://speedspecialty.com/prodimg/fanswitch2_t.jpg

I need to sell crap on ebay.

Edit: And SLP gets $70 for that? Yikes.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. It looks pretty simple thats why I was wondering how to make one myself.

I just put a 160 Thermostat in my car and its going to be a while before I am able to get my car tuned. So right now my fans are still kicking on at 215 as it should. But I need them to kick on at a lower temp with the new thermostat. So until I can get it tuned to do that I just wanted to run a cheap manual fan switch and turn them on manually and keep the car running cool.

Pardon my ignorance as I am not a modern guy (yet), but how much is tuning?

Tuning isn't that expensive the problem for me is finding someone to tune it.

No one locally does 1996 LT1 tuning. The closest place is Philadelphia as far as I know.

Unless I do a mail order tune which I may do since I don't think the trip to Philly is really worth it. The only problem is I'm not crazy about swapping PCM's or taking mine out and having to have my car sit for two or more weeks.
