So for everyone capable building me a motor listen up.
Im not saying build me a motor, Im just seeing what would be best and how much it might cost.

First off what heads are better? vortec or L98? any other heads that are decent and bang for the buck?

How much for a
Forged piston,rod,crank
350
4 bolt
with some sort of heads(vortec or L98 or something better that is still considered budget)
matched intake
and cam
and anything else

Thanks,
Matt

Vortecs are your best bet. By far. My brother scored a set in good shape for $200ish from a member here.

If worse comes to worse, could I use lg4 heads on 350 till I get enough cash for new heads and intake?

You could, but it would require a different intake than the vortecs, and you would also have a higher compression ratio. You would also have to swap valvesprings, and prolly get the LG4 heads cut to fit the bigger valvesprings.

Not worth it. Don't half-ass a new motor. Wait till you have the money.

For inexpensive HP, the vortecs offer most bang for the buck. Especially if you are planning on buying a manifold at the same time.

well pricing for the parts is going to be different than pricing to have the motor built for you since you dont know how to build a motor... you should be looking at a crate motor or an assembled shortblock IMO

so where could I get an all forged short block and how much would it run?

Matt..these are from GM w/ warranty, the first one is complete from carb to pan, the other 2 are just complete longblocks(can manifold or carb dizzy etc)
350 Crate Engine 330HP (Deluxe) HO with Iron Vortec Heads 12496968 Description The 350 HO Deluxe takes the value leading 350 HO a step further by adding carburetor, distributor, water pump, torsional damper, and 12.75in 153 tooth automatic trans flexplate.
This enhancement to the Vortec cylinder head 330 horsepower 350 HO makes it easier than ever to repower your street rod, street machine or sportsman racer.

The 600 cfm vacuum secondary Holley carburetor is ideally suited to the 350 HO. And the proven GM HEI distributor will give years of worry-free driving.
With a 9.1 to 1 compression ratio, it's pump gas friendly, and with its muscle car idle it's cruise night cool. With GMPP's lowest priced small-block crate engine there is no reason to rebuild that junk yard clunker and since it's complete from carb to pan there is no need to chase parts.
$3,497.99

$2,435.99

did you ever go back and clean that sludge out of the engine?
you seem to be making assumptions about the engines condition again, yet you haven't mentioned anything other than some mileage to suggest it has an outside chance at not being in good running order.
KEEP IT SIMPLE!!!

Matt, you really dont need forged pistons and crank, so you could go with a nodular iron crank and hyper pistons to save some coin.

tim you even posted in the thread

Ian I do need forged pistons, every one forgets i have a 50-100 shot here waiting to be installed on my car(no permit so i cant) thats just for my carb, Im sure when I get a different motor Im gonna go a head and order a bigger shot kit, its verry well possible that when I get my liscence I will be spraying 200-300

Matt, if you seriously upgrade to a bigger nitrous kit than the one you already have (and don't need) before you even get a license, you're gonna end up hurting yourself and your car.

I know you dislike it when people bag on you, but why would you think that you are gonna need a built 350 with a 300 shot at 17 years old? Thats a recipe for disaster, for you, the car, or both (and maybe others too).

Please keep it simple.

:werd: you really dont know how much you are messing with there. "hes got enough NAWZ in there to blow himself up!"

NOS is so ricer. :)

Do what everyone said. Clean it out, put it together & see what happens. If it blows up, big frigging deal. If you haven't wasted a motor you aren't trying. What do you have to lose? A cam set & some gaskets? BFD. Yout time? You can't drive for 2+ years - you got plenty of time. Yikes.

a small shot of nitrous doesn't require forged pistons. There are guys spraying 150 shots on stock LS1 motors. they don't have forged pistons and they survive.

And you're not gonna need all that power to take out the kids in your high school parking lot, trust me. build up a mild vortec 350/355 with about 300 HP and you'll laugh at everyone.
