Traction problems at the track...

The last couple of times i have been to the track i have had the same problem with traction...my lauch is the same as always, minimal tire spin if any...but i discovered a new problem...when the car shifts from 1st to 2nd (its an A4) the rear tires break loose and i lose traction, casing the ass end to swing a out...last time i almost lost it when this happened :shock:....


So what could be problem?? let me tell you how the car is set up...40 psi front tires, 20 in the rears, no back seats, spare tire, jack etc...So what is causing me to lose traction to badly??? Shocks?? Lower control arms?? Panhard bar???

Any and all suggestions will be much appreciated...

you run street tires at 20 psi??? that might be your prob right there. i don't run any lower than 26 psi usually around 28 or so.........in my old LS1 Z28.

Mine did the same thing, when I changed the shocks to some drag shocks it but down a bit on the spin and doesnt slide to the side anymore. Yeah, I still get some tire spin but the ass end doesnt kick out anymore :-) Try that and some better tires.

before my weird suspension setup, and with the stock rear, and on street tires at 18-20psi, id bark the tires 4 times down the track, but no sliding sideways. this was with kyb 8way adjustable shocks, UMI torque arm, SFCs, and bmr LCAs. launched it around 3500-4000rpm. but this is also a M6 and not a A4

Well, you need more air, like about 25lbs to 32lbs max.JR1.

If you are racing on street tires at 40 PSI and 20 PSI you are asking for trouble, they aren't designed like that. Drop the fronts down to the recommended tire pressure (I think 32PSI?) and if you are going to deflate the rears don't go below 26-28 PSI. You probably won't gainmuch at all by deflating street tires, they aren't designed fpr low pressure running. In a worst case scenario you could lose the bead at that low pressure and possibly have the tire fall off the rim.

never had any trouble with them. I tried all kinds of tire pressures they worked better for me with 40/20. it also helped a fellow with a 02 ws6 break into the 12s with just a drop in K&N filter too. ive seen people run em with 15psi on street tires before without a problem. there are alot of people that do the same without problems and it only yielded good results

How low you can go with air pressure on street tires will depend on the size and the tire itself.

Never heard of anyone having issues with overinflating a street tire just for track use.

i have always run fronts at 50-60psi at the track. i inflate them there and deflate before i head home. never had any problems at all with any kind of tire, short duration doesn't put enough heat in the tire to cause any trouble, even on the hottest day of summer it is fine.
street radials i wouldn't go much below 27ish psi. below that you will see the belt start to cup and you will be losing tread contact area.
