There have been talks of a "Blue Devil" for years. The new Corvette Cheif Engineer Tom Wallace is a HUGE performance guy, and he picked up on the BD project when Dave Hill retired.
They keep guessing at the power plant, they keep guessing at the name. Blue Devil, Sting Ray, SS, Z07, but a few people all the way to Bob Lutz do like the idea of a faster street Corvette.
Problem they keep running into is....its still a Corvette. Its still built along side less exotic, $45k Corvettes.
A car with this power needs to be in something more exotic and limited then a Corvette. If they make it, Im sure people will buy them up, but when you throw them in the battle of sophistications and technology, the Vette comes up blank.
Something in a Super Caddy, something Mid-Engine. The Blue Devil's engine went from a twin turbo 7.0 motor that couldnt take the abuse that would warranty production. It was ditched for a Supercharged 6.2, making 650hp, which is currently what they are working on. Every mag has come up with its own displacment, own engine, etc etc....but I still dont think that this will be approved for production. It would be nice, but GM has bigger fish to fry.
And the GT500 can just keep up with a standard 400hp C6, so Team Vette aint sweating yet.
