well, i wasnt going to install new motor mounts, but i said what the heck and bought them, today i pulled apart the originals and i'm glad i did, The one side was torn up a decent amount. It was pretty easy to drill out the stock rivets and install the poly inserts. I also took the opportunity to spruce up the clamshells a tiny bit..... here are some pics, the first is the original rubber inserts...

i was gonna get the black ones, but i saw the engine mount/tranny mount package on summit online, and i couldnt find it in black(even tried adding "BL" to the PN). It was $62 for the combo, and the motor mounts were 50 and the trans mount was 22 seperately, so i saved like 10 bucks.

also, if you notice the engine brackets, they are now powdercoated black, ill get better pics of those eventually.

that thread brought up another concern in my mind now, the rod bolts... Its not much, like under $100 and easy to install for me(motor on stand, no oil yet), so now im thinking i should get them, and have one less weak link in my motor. What do you guys think?

ian proposed it to me a while back. i think its a good idea to upgrade such weakpoints like that. 490 with a MS3 sounds sweet though

yeah, i'll be happy if im just anywhere in the 400s lol.
i think i'm gonna go for the rod bolts, considering all i have to do is flip the motor pull the oil pan and swap one at a time, that way i dont even have to remove the rod caps completely. And it also got me thinking of a ported oil pump, i do have a new ls6 one currently, and my budget is gettign stretched very thin now so i dunno.

i would definately port the oil pump. even a home porting to get it flowing better wont hurt. especially if your gonng be turning the motor at 6k+

at 6k+ i think you would wanna spend a litle extra just for some insurance.

Get the rod bolts.

I run an unported pump to 7600.

I sprayed my old motor for 2 years to 7300 with a stock ls6 pump (never hurt it) you'll be fine with it.

well i dont really plan on running it much over 6k, hell with my old motor id shift at the track at around 5600 and still ran a 13.6 @ 106 bone stock.

what about an LS2 timing chain? supposedly like its only like 30 bucks and much stronger... opinions?

do the rodbolts while the oil pan is off. its cakework. someone on ls1tech is selling used ARP2000s for like $60 if you want a link let me know.

and the ls2 chain is much much stronger then the ls1. i dont know how they stack up to the aftermarket double rollers but that is something i would like to know as well.

ls1tech search is amazing, looks like im goin ls2 chain- http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=337380&highlight=ls2+chain

Do all three, the chain, pump and rod bolts....now its cheap and easy. Later it might not be so cheap and defintely won't be easy.

Here's a pic of the stock chain on the left compared to the LS2 Chain on the right and the pic doesn't do justice...the LS2 is worth it...Careful with the balancer bolt on and off.

I've read that the double rollers sometimes require shimming of the oil pump for clearance and that may cause problems with the front cover, I don't know from experience. I do know the LS2 chain goes right on, no problems

I have a balancer install tool for the LS1 if you need it. No worries of stripping crank threads.....

any clue what the difference is between the ls2 chain and the ls2 timing set?

I would guess the timing set includes the crank gear and the cam gear???

LS2 set has a different gear for the cam. you may be able to use it on an LS1 but I wouldnt want to be the one to find out if you can or not.

I have the comp adj. LS1 timing set with a LS2 chain works great.

I didnt have any problems with my front cover install with the SLP double row chain and lingenfelter pump... The double row comes with two spacers for the oil pump and that was it.
