I was outside having a cigar and beer(s) and I heard my neighbor's AC unit kick on. Dam climate controlled people! How will these people ever survive when the terrorists take control of your AC!

Mine is on now, cause I have a 2-month old and we were out all day with the house closed. When I walked in tonite, it was 81 on the 1st floor, and 83 on the 2nd floor. 1st floor AC is off now, the 2 bedroom units are on, and I'm hanging in the basement with the fan and a Yuengling. :)

I was just going to say Absolutely, but I decided to get some fresh air into my room. I'll probably have the a/c on Fan later. This is the first summer in my life (20yrs) that I have my own A/C unit in my window. Before then the Central never made it to my room upstairs.

It got down to 65 last night so there was no reason for anyone to have AC turned on. Our house was 85 upstairs when I got home at 7:30 and some window fans got the temp back down to 75 within 3 hours. It was 70 upstairs this morning. Later this week it's supposed to go down into the upper 50's a couple of nights. I just find it amazing that people are so clueless to weather conditions and just leave things turned on and waste energy for no reason other than their own laziness. Then they complain about gas prices! :???: I walked my dog around the block late last night and there wasn't a single house with windows open other than ours! This really is scary that people are so climate controlled. Is this our future???

Jeff have you looked into solor powering your house??
solar power would be beneficial for someone who uses alot of energy. someone like jeff, who is smart with energy conservation, would see little use for solar power.

i am not a big a/c user. thee is preprogrammed central air in my house, but i woudl rather be outside no matter what the weather is. i worked outside all week with the heat index between 110 and 120, didn't mind a bit. :)

it was jsut funny at work listening to all the 22 year olds i work with dying because they had to sweat a little. these are the same pin heads that want to make fun of me for being old and fat while they brag about being in great shape and hitting the gym all the time. l
in a few months i will geto t hear them cry about how cold it is while i work outside in shorts. lol

why do you care if people waste energy
That is the exact attitude that I'm trying to point out. We do not have an endless supply of energy and we need to stop wasting it. Running AC when it's under 75 degrees is a complete waste unless the humidity is at 99%. The side effect is that all the kids nowadayz are addicted to their climate controlled houses and can't go out if the temp isn't between 72-75. You kids are supposed to be creating a better future and instead you're already draining our energy supplies faster than we did!

the temp up here never got anywhere near 65 even at night. I have an outdoor thermostat and it is currently 81 out. Not really comfortable for sleeping.
I hate being hot and sticky and I keep my a/c on all day long even when I'm not home. I love coming in to a nice 65 degree home. Taking a nice cool shower and then relaxing in front of the boob tube.
i don't have central air I have window units so I even put on one in the bedroom and one downstairs, I'm so generous I even give the animals their own a/c and let it run all day as well.
Just so I don't have to sweat I go out to my car 5 min before i have to leave and turn it on with the a/c on full blast as well. I'm planning on getting a remote start so I don't even have to go outside.
Ahhh, the convenience and comfort of a nice cool home nothing like it in the world.

sorry dude, but if im hot im turning the A/C on. there's no way around it. I can however sleep in the cold and even if temperature goes below 0 C i still dont care. so how about no one uses heaters now cuz some of us dont really need it?

That's the point. If you waste energy when it's comfortable out, you might not have that energy when you really need it! Extreme heat won't kill you like extreme cold will. If most people had the option of being allowed to use heat during the winter or AC during the summer, which would they pick? Heat of course. I'm not saying to never turn the AC on, but most people turn it on in May and let it run until Nov. Last night it got down to 60 degrees agarin with no humidity. Why would anyone leave their AC on and their house closed up? A complete waste of energy. It's not a matter of cost, it's a matter of limited natural resources. This generation should know much better than my generation about conserving energy but apparently not. But don't worry, Al Gore is watching you and he knows exactly how many kilowatts you have wasted!

dude did you just say that extreme heat WONT kill you? are you serious?
When you're cold you can easily make yourself warmer, you dont need to be a rocket scientists to figure that out. What do you do when its really hot out? you only got so much clothes to take off? I still cant believe that you said heat wont kill you, cuz everyyear hundreads of people die from heat...
P.S. just for the record i would prefer ac in the summer over heat in the winter, ill tell you why if you care, but im pretty sure you dont.

The people that die from heat are because they don't know what they are doing and don't try to find shade or water to cool off. How many people stand outside in the sub zero cold for no reason? You would die from extreme cold if you had no energy source for heat much sooner than you would die from extreme heat with no energy source for AC. Humans have lived on this planet for a long time with no AC. People adapt to their surroundings and can live in 115 degree heat or extreme cold with no electricty or AC. But we have decided to move in and develop deserts because we have AC and can now live in those conditions! But when the power goes out, people can't live in those conditions because their body isn't adapted to the heat. That is the big problem we're creating. Most Americans have a very small comfort zone nowadays. I can go all summer without AC and it won't kill me. Can you go all winter without any form of heat and survive? Some day you'll understand that wasting energy is not a good thing.
ok ive passed out from being too hot before, that was when i was a kid tho... so yea im pretty sure i would die faster from being hot then being cold.
Lets see i used to live in Russia and um...during the winter it can be anywhere from 0C to - 40C. Here's a little something about local government. They dont like to turn on the heat for as long as they can get away with it. I remember one time they turned the heat on in Ferbuary... and no you dont have your own personal fireplaces in an apartment building its not like it is here. Have you actually seen frost on your walls when you have up? or how about ice in your sink/bathroom? i have, plenty of times. Also when i was a kid i tryed to get sick so i can skip school - well guess what? sleeping with open windows during the russian winters i didnt get sick even once. All it did to me was made me oblivious to cold. I can care less how cold it is outside cuz i know my body will adopt in less then 5 minutes.
I have the same constant "argument" with my mom that im having with you right now. She's always cold, she needs the heat, she even gets cold when its 80F + out (its beyond me why)... I, on the other hand can wear a tshirt when its -10C out and it feels normal to me. So i guess when the winter time comes around ill switch into your mode and keep telling everyone to turn off the heater cuz, well one of us (me) can take the cold pretty easily, and the rest shouldnt waste energy. sounds about right?
edit* and yes i could go all winter (especially here in US) without heat and survive.

Well, you might be able to, but 99% of the people in this country can't. And you haven't told us what your gov't was injecting you with when you were a kid!
