The 396 did not like the stop and go traffic on 31 and it started to get pretty hot. So I had to turn on the heat to help keep the motor cool. It's starts to ping pretty bad when it gets up around 200 degrees. And the clutch and linkage got worse on the way home probably due to the heat. But I made it home in 1 piece and I didn't even use a half tank of gas so I might have gotten 10 mpg today! I think we need to create a rule for next year that nobody should start working on their car the week before the Nats! Too many MIA's! Definitely a good time today and glad the weather held off.

I know your pain Jeff..........That's why I trailered mine up. I couldn't stand the thought of all that heat under my butt for the ride up. The AC in my truck worked just fine.......ahhhhhhhh LOL

Almost makes me think I want to put the AC back in the car...

Well, if you're car is starting to run hot you definitely can't use the AC. It was really the stop and go traffic that was the problem. Once I got back into open road on 579 it cooled back down. I got home and went out in my boat so I could cool myself down in the river.

We jinxed you talking about that flex fan (that would be part #1 I'd unload off that car).

We run Skyline Drive in VA once a year and 1st and 2nd gen cars overheat when we hit the mountain at full blast. Last year all of them dropped out half way up.

Unless you put in bigger radiators and electric fans the older cars can't handle the long runs in the heat.

Bull. Properly prepared ones can't.
