im getting a 10bolt for parts mainly for the pinion and the differential with 373 gears. Im gonna take the diff out of my broken 10bolt and put the diff with the 373s in. will i need to set the backlash or anything? or is that only if you are changing the gears themselves? thanks

whats the whole thing? like the differential ill be getting has the gears already bolted up to it and everything. i was just going to pull that out and put in my decent 10 bolt housing. i dont know too much about rears

i would set the backlash, considering the back lash has nothing to do with how the gears bolt up to the carrier itself. even if you use the pinon set with the same ring gear and center diff unit once before. each housing itself might be a tiny bit different, hence the reason you set the backlash to begin with. if every one was the exact same, theyd just drop in everytime and bolt up and be perfect with no adjustments required.

i meant just swap the entire rear end out for the new one. It'll be a lot less headache.

yes the gear set has to be set up because the backlash and pinion depth are adjusted to compensate for inconsistencies in the casing of a particular center section..
