Here's a philosophical question for you:

Is the 2009 Camaro really a 5th gen? Or just "the new Camaro"? Did the term 5th gen apply to the Camaro / Firebird model, or the f-body platform? Since the 2009 Camaro will not be on an f-body platform, do we start the count all over again? 8-)

Discuss!

i think so. this is the 5th generation of the camaro. i wouldnt go around calling it a 5th gen fbody cause the fbody is usually associated with the platform of the camaro AND firebird. platforms change, but the fact that soo much has changed and the fbody name no longer lives on is enough to say the fbody was only 4 generations long. the camaro on the other hand, lives on for a 5th

I think Jake has the right idea. It's still a 5th gen Camaro....

Answer thes question.
Has the Corvette been on the same platform its entire life?
How many changes has the Corvette seen?
Do we not call the current Corvette, C6, standing for the 6th Generation Corvette?

This will be the 5th version of the Chevy Camaro, therefor being the 5th generation of the car. The Fbody was not the same from day one to the end, was it? Just because of hiatus doesnt mean that it breaks contact. They still include 1983 when they count the Corvette's birthday.

Here is a harder question....is the 04-06 GTO the 3rd generation or the first with an old name?

id say its the 5th generation regardless of the platform change. as for the GTO id say it was the the 3rd generation since i looks nothing like the original GTOs of the past

5th gen. Or 3rd if you discount the cars with silly glass hatches.

Hey thats not very nice! Personally I think 3rd gens are better looking that most 2nd's. Camaros at least minus 70, 71,72 split bumpers.

I was not a big fan of 2nd gens outside of the early years, 70-73.
Anyway, as for the Malibu, name lives on so its gotta be like the 8th gen since its creation.
