I need help selecting a CHEAP cam, lifter and valve spring kit. I have everything else.
Its for a computer controlled 305 lg4 with hedman headers, dynomax catback. I was told that the XE262H is the best
Now While that is resonably priced the kit with everything (lifters springs etc) is 450, thats too much, It comes with a timing chain wich I dont need..
If I get that cam can some one help me order the right parts for that cam?
I also need to know if i get the one for computer controlled engines or not, the computer controlled one says great for tpi...

with a new cam you need springs that are matched for it, new lifters, new lock nuts for the rocker studs at the very least. you also need a gasket kit. the timing chain is only insurance and only takes like 40 bucks off the price..

I'll sell you a stock LT1 Cam.
it would cost more for that then the other cam and kit..
I know I need stuff
Im just asking if Its a good cam for me, and If some one can give me the individual part numbers considering I all ready have a new timing chain and a cam install kit.

that is a good cam for a mild/stock engine. i woudl sugest putting up the cash for the complete kit. for about $300 you get everything you need in one box from comp cams :)
LT1 cam would be a no go. pre-86 flat tappet block. no provisions for roller lifters like the LT1 cam would require. stock LT1 cam is a great mod for anyone with a 305 roller motor, excellant choice for a tbi motor :)

I can get a lt1 cam to work, how ever in order to it would cost about 600 for parts, I read it in a book 8)

www.compcams.com/Technical/CurrentCatalog
that brings you to the table of contents for comps catalog. click on the small block chevy page listing. when the catalog pages load up just scroll down to the extreme energy cams and you will see a listing of the recomended parts individually. :) it will show you which springs/retainer/locks they suggest you use there

I dunno why they charge so much more for the "computer controlled" cams. Same damn cam, just has a 114 LSA instead of a 110. And they charge $140 more.

If they went through the trouble of CARB/EPA certification (I’m not looking to see if it is approved), then part of what you are paying for that testing & R&D.

I'm guessing that a lot of it is just from the fact that most owners don't know that they can get their computer retuned to work with a more radical cam. They figure they can just charge more, and people will pay it because "it works with your stock computer"

well I was going to order it right now. but my mom said to wait till when she gets home..
How do I get my computer tuned? I know theirs some things on tgo but is that for lg4's too? Im also very confused by it!!
can some one help me get a part number for summit or jegs that cheaper then 450.. that WILL work with my motor.

a lot of people and companies are around that can do tuning for your computer. i would suggest PCM4Less. if you can find someone to help you data log they can get your tune dialed in pretty easy.

don't worry about the computer control thing. if you can't get it tuned in then it is a 40min or so job to switch everything over to mechanical anyway.
WayFast84
09-13-2006, 06:52 PM
then it will cost more money to switch..
