I have already spoken to a few people I know that hunt and they are getting back to me on rules and regulations on hunting. Well here goes:
When I google earthed my house out here I noticed there was a decent sized lake/pond off into the woods a bit, so I for the past few months have wanted to get back there but I never got time. Well the other day I was told by my dad that he spoke to an old timer and it came up that we just moved here and he knew EXACTLY where we were and said "Just off your property theres a big lake thats got some of the best fishing around" well that sparked our interests to find it. Well today me and a buddy set out into the woods and found the lake...its a pretty awesome spot but we didnt stay long. On the way back I came to a small clearing that I have been to before on the 4wheeler, and there was something weird. There was a new deer stand up in a tree and a whole bunch of corn and a big "block" of what looks like cornmeal and all kinds of other stuff in it. Now this stand is about 30 feet from my property line, so he is not on my property. The opening is Very small and the stand is almost directly over the bait so they are most likely hunting with a bow. One person told me that baiting is illegal in NJ, so I dont know if that is true or not. These woods are just off a farmers field (probably about 200 acres and it is farmland preserved) We have about 8 deer that my family has been watching since we moved in (we are NOT feeding them) they live on our land and have about 4-5 bedding places scattered about that I know about. We really would hate to see these deer taken out, because they are really alot of fun to watch. The way it is set up it almost looks like someone really is doing this illegaly and it is the perfect spot to set this up because these deer are in and out ALL the time in that spot. Even though they are not on my property since they are so close do they need to have our permission to hunt there also? What are the laws about baiting deer, and what is the limit per year? If these things start disappearing I will know why and will know how many at a time. There is only one buck that I have seen and 3 small deer and the rest have been doe. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
