Hey guys, I need some advice on a flash drive I just got. It's a 1GB ACP flash drive and I have having some issues with it. I tried installing a bootable linux operating system to it but it failed when the program tried to format the flash drive. Now I can't get it to reformat and the thing's a piece of junk!

Whenever I try to reformat it, it gives me either a write protection error, or a "bad sector 0" error.

There is no write protection switch on the drive.

I have tried to do it through windows, using the computer manager and I have also tried the command line:

Format E: /FS:FAT32 / Format E: /FS:FAT

Not really sure what else I can do. Are there any intelligent formating programs (free of course) that could recognize a bad sector if this is what's causing this? Is there a windows xp bug / registry issue?

I dunno...have you tried :google: to see if there are known issues with it?

I didn't have any problem reformatting my 2GB cruzer when I got it....

On Windows XP, I'd start with a "chkdsk /R". (/R: "Locates bad sectors and recovers readable information"). Fire up a command prompt to run that command.
if your not using windows try

Sorry I should have mentioned that, I tried to do a chkdsk as well and it came up as can not do this on "RAW" partitions. I did some googling and found out most of the time when it says a drive has a RAW partition it means something on the drive is corrupt..

well no *****!
