View Full Version : goodbye NJ... its time to go
well, as some have known, i have been considering moving to NC in a year or so, but i was only 90% sure. well tonight, that 10% doubt went away. I have definately decided to move south. In about 2 weeks or so, i'll be making a trip to the Outer banks to look into jobs and housing/apartments.
The main change to my previous plans is that now I plan on moving by the end of this winter, instead of in a year. I see no reason to wait 12 months. Once i clean out my garages and pay off some small debts, i'm as good as gone. I'll miss the people who i have came to regularly hang out with and all, but i'll keep in touch, it's not like computers dont exist in NC. Once a date is set, i will be telling everyone personally, and most likely i'll be having a party right before i go. It'll be rough at first, but it's something i just gotta do.

my company has one of our shops in Concord, NC. (other ones is Moorestown NJ, Orlando, FL, and Austin, TX). Concord is about 20 miles north of Charlotte (basically the other side of NC).
I love it down there. Everytime I drive a load down there, its like a mini vacation.

Good luck
No front license plates, legal window tint, lower insurance...I cant blame you one bit
Best of luck. If you need any help getting things squared away before you leave let me know, I'd be glad to help you out.
i would be moving to the outer banks, and only on the outer banks, so it isnt that much of the sticks lol. When i was down in september, i stopped in a a chevy dealer on the island and talked about jobs etc. Theres also a dodge dealer right there. If i dont become a tech(i was a mechinc for a few years at a private shop a while back), then i may look into construction/maintenece for all the seasonal rental houses down there.
I'm only 26 now so i figure i'll still do ok if i go now. cuz if i wait a year or so, then it maybe become 2 years, and then i'm geting closer to 30 and itll be harder to meet friends and all.
As far as the relocation tax, i have no idea about it, its not like i own a house here or anything. i still live at home haha. so i'll see.
jared, yes i got it, it has 68K miles on it.
Ian in addition to those things, only about 50% of NC has emissions testing and the east coast(and OBX) is part of the areas that dont have it so thats a plus for me too, until in about 2 years when they may try to instate it.
As for taxes there, a 3 bedroom 2 bath home on the average OBX lot is about $1,000-1,200 a year. Where i live now is $13,000 a year. I have been doing some looking at house online and saw one i loved in Nags head for 200K, and with 25-50% down it wouldnt be too bad. My next step now is to find a definate job.
Selling off my parts here is gonna be the thing that takes the longest. theres just so much. im sure im gonna end up tossing a bunch of semi-good parts that just arent worth holding on to for resale. And My vette and Iroc will remain here in NJ for a while at least(1-2 years) until i find some type of good storage down there or enough room.
