The rear in my truck is on very borrowed time right now. The pinion gear has been making noise for quite a while and it's getting worse. I'm going to pick up a full rebuild kit with the bearings for the pinion, carrier, and axles, as well as the crush sleeve and seals. I need someone with experience setting up rears to give me a hand. I know how to do most of the disassembly and reassembly but adjusting the backlash and getting the correct shims in there isn't something I've got enough experience with. Also I don't have access to a press for the pinion bearing races and I'm sure they need to be replaced with all the noise that's going on back there.
If anyone has access to a press and experience setting the backlash correctly please let me know if you can help out. I'll offer up food and drink and even some cash is necessary. Would like to knock the project out in a day as the truck is my daily driver.

I'll help out. I haven't rebuilt a rear in over 5 years, but I'm sure it'll come back to me

You got access to a press for the pinion bearing races? If so I'll order the parts this week and maybe we can do it next weekend.

no access to a press, unless we go to my work and use the one there. to be honest, I completely forgot how to set all the depths and stuff like that.

Paul if you want to make the trip here I have all the tools needed. This may be the chance you were talking about earlier to start collaborating on a few projects.

he ordered a suncoast tranny (it's a diesel "racing" tranny) he had it shipped here and within 1 week it blew up. So he's going right to michigan with the truck to have them take care of the problem so he doesnt have to put it in again.

allisons are tough but once you ad about 90 hp to em theyre not **** in factory form. i put a transgo jr kit on my allison and so far it has held up on the 138hp extreme mode on the bully dog diesel tuner

This wasn't a stock trans that blew, it was an aftermarket racing trans, with a warrenty. That's why he's driving out to Michigan to get it fixed by the company who built it.

it was a suncoast trans with a transgo shift kit and all sorts of other goodies. The truck now has an EFI Live tune that puts out around 500hp with no problem. It's not your normal handheld tune lol. Again sorry for the hijack lol.

I have made it home safe from Michigan, 4 hours sleep in 3 days makes for fun driving....

Anyways the story on my trans... I bought the trans about 3 weeks ago with 2500 miles on it. I put it in 2 weeks ago and 1 week ago it blew. After all was said and done I completly destroyed it. According to the guy, it was the first time he has ever seen an allison destroyed the way it was. I am working on getting the pics from him if you want to see how bad it was.

But, after all the headaches its back and running better than ever...my only worry is what jimmys gunna do when my truck beats his car
