simple question on tires

Kid Racer and I cant seem to agree on something here and i would appreciate everyones views on this one-


we have a tire lets say its 245 50 15

What is the first number? the height or the treadwidth?
Me- treadwidth in mm kidracer says its the height

whats the second number ? the aspect ratio (height) or treadwidth
me- aspect ratio kid racer- width

3rd number is the rim size

we agreed on that one lol

EDIT: now i know there are certain instances for slicks and All terrain tires EX 26x10.50x16 or 35X12.50x 16, but we werent talkin about those

245 = width in mm, 50 = height in percentage of the width, 15 = wheel size

i beleive its in millimeters .. or centimeters ... or something metric

245 is tread width ..
50 means 50% of the tread width is the sidewall height
15 is rim size

at least thats what i been telling my self for a long time

First number (245) is section width. Not necessarily tread width. Sidewall to sidewall.

not necessarily the the tread width but DEfinately not the height of the tire!! lol This is the point i was trying to get across to kid racer ill have to send him the link to this thread

These numerals indicate the tire section width in millimeters. This is the dimension from sidewall to sidewall. A tire's section width will vary depending on the rim to which it is fitted. The section width will be larger on a wide rim and smaller on a narrow rim. Therefore, each tire is measured to specific rim width. (To convert millimeters into inches, divide by 25.4.)
