its just a RPO build code. With it you get different options with the package.

Nothing. It is an RPO code, next in the sequence after Z27 (SS) as it was introduced after the SS in 1967 IIRC.

also, on a similar note, if you ever see people mention LG4, L69, LB9, L98, L03 etc, those are all types of RPO codes for the third gen v8 motors. 1LE is a another example of an RPO code made popular by a handling "package"(certain other parts/options (RPOs) ordered automaically trigger the code).

for 4th gens, SS is WU8.. i know that because when i went to buy mine, I gave the salesman every RPO option i wanted in a list and told him to find the car.

I love RPO codes. They are little mysteries. Who knows what secret your door holds?!

As posted before, the Z does stand for Zora Arkus Duntov, a Chevy engineer and racer who saved the original Corvette from getting the ax by installing the 265 small block in '55 and developing the small block AND the Corvette through the '60s. Have you ever heard of Duntov cams? That's him too. Father of the Corvette. So Chevy honored him in 1967. And the rest, as they say, is history!

No, it doesn't. :-?

Let me put it this way:

Z28 is an RPO for an option package.

Z22 is Rally sport. Z23 is custom interior. Duntov had jack **** to do with those.

The 302 may have started life as an exercise by Zora Arkus-Duntov and Dick Keinath back in the late fifties but they did not honor him this way.

Z/28 and Zora are partners by coincidence. Anything else is a myth, just like factory installed crossrams.
