For December, Buick sales were down 24.5 percent, Cadillac was up 2.8 percent, Chevrolet was off 12.9 percent, GMC fell 14.4 percent, Hummer dropped 10.9 percent, Pontiac shed 6.2 percent, Saab rose 32.7 percent, and Saturn gained 41.8 percent. Overall car sales were up 2.2 percent for the month, but down 7.2 percent for the year. Truck sales were down 15.9 percent in December, and 9.7 percent for the year.

:w00t: where the egyptian goes, everyone else follows... thats an amazing sales jump for saturn and thats only getting better once the new SUVs hit the market and the new smaller sedan that Al can shed light on. BUT, what really surprised me is pontiac, i thought they were doing great?

Well, yeah Saturn's doing great over last year...but all they had last year is the Ion and the Vue. Now they have thoes 2, the Aura, the Outlook (which just went on sale) and the Sky, so they just boosted the crap out of there line up. With the Astra going on sale late this year, it should really make Saturn a real player in the market, and lets not forget the new Vue coming out...btw Jake, gotta see the new Vue RL coming soon...secksy.
Pontiac is mixed, as is all of GM. GM has cut back big time on fleet sales, and this is why sales are down. The GOOD news, and the positive spin on all this gloom, is that GM's average transaction price increased 8% over last year, meaning that people are buying GM cars at a higher price. They have really shed a lot of there big fire-sale, cash on the hood type incentive programs and have kept to the value pricing. Most rebates on cars are at the average for most vehicles, anywhere from 500 to 1500 bucks.
Increase in retail sales is good for GM, which means more profits, which is what GM really wants. The big test is coming up, with all of the All-Lutz vehicles coming out this year such as the new Malibu and the new CTS. Its good stuff all around for GM, they just got to keep the nose to the grind stone. Lutz works his magic on cars while Rick keeps the investors and the board happy. Good tag team combo.
