I'm looking into some clear corners for my 98 Camaro but am unsure of which to buy off ebay. Where/Which ones have you guys bought?

Also, I've heard of the issues with the driver's side DRL's. How can I mitigate the burning of the housing?

Thanks for the help.

i bought my last set from procarparts.com on ebay, i think thats the name, lol. The lenses are the same for 1993-2002. My first 2 sets leaked and melted. With my 3rd set, i had to replace the sockets and i went back to plain amber bulbs, and aftermarket "superbright" bulbs give a much higher chance of melting. As an additional precaution, i deactivated the DRLs completely and that takes car of the auto on headlights which i hated as well(since i have HIDs). Ive been runnign the last set for 4 years now with no problems. well the last year the car has had no motor, lol. Let me know if you want info on how to deactivate drls.

I would love some info on how to deactivate my DRL's [although I do kind of like them] Where did you also get the bulb sockets from? Just a GM Dealer? The reason i ask is because my driver socket melted my OEM housing so i know that needs replacement.

Where did you get your HID setup from? Did it cost much to change over? I really don't know anything about them so anything you can share would be great!

Thanks!

http://www.lightsout.org/disable.html#GMspec

after i did it, for some reason now i cant pop the rear hatch while the engine is running to get the t-tops out, even with the e-brake up, i could swear i could have poped it with the engine running and the e-brake up before i disabled the DRL's now i have to shut the friggin thing off to get my hatch to open

to get my hatch up right now [my drl's are not disabled] when the engine is running is if i pull the ebrake.

Has anyone else had the same problem as alamantia when disabling the drl's?

i can't pop my hatch w/o unlocking it with the key so i wouldn't be able to help anyway...

I like the DRL's so i'm thinking of keeping them, but i love the Clear Corners. So for all you electrical guys out there, have you devised a way to solve this problem?

From what i've read the bulb gets too hot and melts away the housing. But it seems to be only on the drivers side which leads me to think that the resistance in the wire as it is run to the passenger side is enough to limit the current to the bulb, so it does not get as hot.

I wonder if you resistive load accross the power and ground before the wires are run to the connector would solve the heat issues. Any thoughts?

naaaaa, melted both of mine too, those euro bulbs do not discriminate, IMO DRL's are pretty stupid on an F'body, I bought new clear corners and disabled the DRL's and alls good second time around, the corners just arent as bright until you use your blinker and intermintant hot flashes are not enough to warp the corners like the constant temp of the DRL's. If the corners werent sealed closed you could use a little aluminum foil for heat shields I suppose, may make them seem even brighter, but that would entale cutting the water proof seals around teh lenses perfictly and then sealing them back up...

I fixed any leaking problems with my "black-ice" clear corners by applying a thin layer of clear window sealant where the clear part meets the rest of the housing, and I smoothed it out with my finger. No problems since I bought them.

i just grounded the drl module and afaik/remember i could pop my hatch with the car running, as long as i put the ebrake up(like normal) i almost never used the key back there.

i'll fidn a better link to explain it, sorry it took em so logn to respond, i was out of state. I also dont suggest putting any resistance inline with the bulbs, that would actually create more problems. IF you get clears, and use stock bulbs, the drls wont cause much of a problem, its when those blue or "super white" bulbs are used that cause problems.

I got the sockets for mine from pep-boys

Agreed. I went through 2 sets of clear corners and all leaked.. I did the window sealant and with my luck, they didnt leak, but the inner lense right in the center by the bulb has a glare and it pissed me off looking at it... so I bought some turn signal blackouts and problem was fixed :-D
