anyone know anything about U-Joints??

hey guys i need to get some new U joints and i was wondering if its gonna make a difference with the brand i buy. Any suggestions??

i always used stock autoparts ones. What kind of driveshaft is it? Steel or aluminum? What kinda car is is?

If steel and if original U-Joints you gotta take a torch and heat up the joint to burn that fiberglass injection out. Just FYI if you didnt already know ...

all the major brands are basically the same unless you get into the lightweight racing stuff, and even then the only difference is they are aluminum and don't tend to last as long.
i have always had good luck with NAPA brand. the stock u-joint will have the part number on it for them to cross reference.

no, you just knock the clips out from the sides and hammer the joint out

i have a 98 formula, im pretty sure its aluminum right? its the stock U joint. So basically it doesnt really matter what type of U joint i get because they are mostly all the same? i want somethin decent but dont wanna spend a lot.

look at it when you get the chance. Brown and rusty = steel ... silver and dirty= aluminum.

I think the u-joints are the same anyways

ok ill let ya know when i take a look at it. I also have another question, i need to get a new serpentine belt if thats how you spell it. Does it matter what type of belt? i was gonna just check pepboys or autozone. Ive been lookin online but i cant find a part #

the part number should be printed on the belt. the parts stores will have the correct item number in there computer system

Yeah, there are 3 basic "types" from what I can tell:

1.) The normal ones with the zerk fitting in the body of the u-joint
2.) The "heavy duty" ones with the zerk fitting in the u-joint cap
3.) The "super duty" ones with no zerk fitting at all.

The 2nd type are the ones that I use.
