I was wondering if anyone knows what the laws are about paintball guns. There is a big patch of woods near us that we want to play in but we know for a fact that even BB guns and pellet guns in NJ count as discharging a firearm. Is it the same for paintball guns? I cant find them listed specifically in the 2c code but it defines a firearm as anything capable of projecting an object whether by compressed gas, black powder or any other explosive or expanding gas charge, or strung bow or elastic.

It's only illegal if you get caught ;)

The three times I played at "pirate" fields (how old is that term?) the police showed up when distant residents heard the repeating popping of the markers. Each time they showed up, knew it for what it was, and advised us (they didnt tell us) that we should find someplace else to play since residents were complaining. We weren't shooting anyone else, and not marking up any private property. The police couldn't make us leave, and it wasn't illegal to play in woods that weren't privately owned. But... they can cite you (give you a ticket) for disturbing the peace if enough residents complain and they keep coming back to warn you to stop.
Go play, then leave when the cops show up. *shrugs* Just don't run when they show up, that makes it look bad.

Get out there and get some games going, and then make sure you invite the Paintball players of NJFBOA.
