Has any dealt with TheEnginestore.com. Im looking at buying a 383 short block from them. I was going to but a GM performance ZZ4 but from reading a lot of bad stories about GM performance blocks I decided to look elsewhere. The Engine store said they could build me a 383 late model 1 pc rear, roller cam short block for $1799. Its internal balance with Eagle Crank, Rods and Keith Black Hyper pistons. Is this a good deal and should I be all over it like white on rice or is this place have a bad rep.

Well I called them and they seem extremely helpful. I talked to a guy (thirdgen.org) that lives next to that shop and he said they are great. They have been in buisness for 52 years and they do have a ebay store with almost over 1800 postive feedbacks, they have 100% postive feed back. They say they give a one year unlimited mileage warranty. They said the engine they build for me will be able to handle 500 hp.

Now let me preface this by stating I've never used them-

But be aware that just because a company has been in business for many years doesn't mean that the current ownership is on the up-and-up. Sounds like you are all set though, have fun with it! My only advice is to spring for forged pistons instead of the KB's.

Im not trying to sound like Im defending this place I figured since it seamed like they have a good rep Id work with them. I figured Id post this wondering if anyone used them. If you know of any other place locally that can do the same thing for a resonable price please let me know.

-- i agree with the KB pistons their are better but they do work -- close piston to wall clearence very little noize ( clatter cold like a forged ) -- behave braking it in -- as far as the eagle cranks go its the best of the china crap thats out their - we have used them in motors never thought would last -- jz

Whats wrong with Eagle?? I just made over 800hp on the dyno with one of their cranks for 1 piece rear seal 350 on pump gas.. Maybe it should have broke huh? Point is that if you ask enough people you will eventually hear something bad about just about everyone in the automotive field. Find someone you trust and stick with them...

it really depends which eagle you are talking about. they have several lines of cranks.
their forged stuff is ok, nothing special, most of their cast cranks aren't too god though. i know a few guys who have broken them on streetable engines.

yeah those cast cranks are crap i only got 426 runs on mine with my kb pistons @10.38 128.00 mph 1.36 60ft. news flash its all in what we call a proper tune up ,if your engine does not run right and detonates for any reason, cheap gas bad timing etc... even the best of parts will fail.

I just talked to the guy at the engine store and he said he would upgrade to all forged parts including H beam rods and SRP forged pistons for a total of 2500. I think thats the way Im gonna go.

You gotta pay to play, but 2500 for all forged stuff, sounds good. go for it

Well I just ordered the short block. I went with all forged parts. I should get it within 15 - 20 days. I will post pics when it comes.
