Well, GM has been saying that they want Pontiac to be the BMW-fighter in the division. Hence the numerical names by size.

Very BMW, looks great. I think they should keep the Grand Prix name plate. What would better than being out somewhere and that passes by and someone asks you, "What's that?" You say "G8" and they'll be like, "What's a G8?" But call it Grand Prix and I can bet the response would be "THAT'S A GRAND PRIX?!?!"

You know, on second look it appears like a 300c up front. Kinda a big nose.

I expect mid 30s, maybe 35-37, 40 fully loaded. It has to be less than the CTS-V.

It'll probably be priced like the chrysler 300. you can get a stripped down one for under 30, but the full optioned ones go for over 40

More details will be released, but pricing of the G8 will be in line with the GTO. No info is known on the engine being either the L98 version making 370hp or an American Spec LS2 making 400. There will also be a V6 model that will be sold. More info to be known in a week.

Can't get excited yet until I see the rest. The nose doesn't tell you anything other than it's a Pontiac. I really hope the rest of the car isn't BMW-esque. I also hope they keep the price in the 20's. Putting it up around the GTO would be stupid in my book. We aren't paying for a recognized name, and the mission of the G8 is what? A grocery getter with a huge engine?

Looked like a Chrylser 300 with a Pontiac grill. Hopefully they price it where it will be able to sell.

I think it looks like a Commodore with a Pontiac grill...

G8 will come in 6 and 8 models from my understanding. V6 will start mid 20's, V8 will probably start at 30's.
Whats the point of it? I dont know, but people sure have a hard on for the LX Hemi cars, not to mention the desire for RWD sedans from the enthusiasts community. 400hp 4dr sedan for under 40k...like the GTO, only one like it. Find me another 400hp 4dr sedan or 2dr coupe with the quality and performance of the Commodore and GTO, for under 35k...heck, 40k.

Pontiac isn't letting its Australian connection go that easy with the demise of the GTO. Instead, it's bringing back a 4-door relative based on the Holden Commodore SS, but rather than use the GTO badge, it calls this sedan the G8. The base model is equipped with a 261-bhp 3.6-liter V-6, which also boasts 250 lb ft of torque, which it delivers to the rear wheels through a five-speed automatic with sequential shift mode. The big dog G8 GT is powered by a 362 bhp 6.0-liter V-8, which produces 391 lb ft of torque. GT buyers will be able to select from either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission, although the manual option will be added after the car is launched.
Riding on 114.8-in. wheelbase, the G8 has a fully independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes. Curb weight on the V-6 models is 3885 lb., while the V-8 GT tips the scales at 3995 lb. Unlike the GTO, which was a four-passenger vehicle, the GT has seating for five thanks to the three-passenger rear seat. The G8 has Pontiac's trademark split grille and rides on standard 18-in. wheels. The GT offers optional 19-in. alloys. A sport package that includes a rear wing is available across the board. The G8 is slated to go on sale in August as a 2008 model.

Looks good so far. I just hope the V6 is affordable for the masses. Fleet sales help, but aren't enough to help Pontiac.

BigAls87Z28

There will be no fleet sales of this car.
I find it odd that the car wont get a US spec LS2 like the GTO got. Should be faster and handle a lot better then the Charger. Cant wait. Good they have the option of 6spd auto or manual for the V8. 6spd auto on the 6cyl should have been greenlighted, but I think price difference wouldnt have been much at that point. Good stuff Pontiac.
