Oh man, that HURT to listen to. There was a few moments where, like when you eat something real sour, one side of your face tenses up and the eye almost closes... you know what Im talkin about if youre a musician! Im hoping it was because of the rain he was playing so horribly, but damn that was some of the sloppiest playing Ive heard... I could EASILY smoke him, and that aint sayin all that much!

I heard that he was a good player, but after tonight I think Im gonna have to go ahead and disagree with that.

With all due respect, you would be wrong. I'm guessing you're a metal guy. And when you can play every instrument on as many platinum records as he has get back to me. :)

Prince also puts on great concerts. Quite the showman. I think there is a reason almost every big name musician think Prince is great must mean something. Guys like Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page & BB King right off the top of my head.

Im not saying hes not a great musician, because he is... all Im saying is that he cant play guitar to save his life.

Not sure what the age spread is on this forum but my guess is that a lot of people on here haven't experienced the majority of Prince's music. He rules, hands down and while his music may not be what's "in" right now you have to recognize the sheer skill with which he shreds that guitar - in the rain no less.

hell no last years justin timberlake/janet jackson was worst, even with that custom malfaction.

i actually thought his show was entertaining even though i really don't care for him as a musician he does put a good show on. even if he sang 20 year old songs.

**** yeah dude! Could you imagine: 4,000,000 people watching the halftime show... everything goes black. Then out of nowhere, Araya screams "BEFORE YOU SEE THE LIGHT, YOU MUST DIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!" As he says die, the stadium erupts in flames, red lights and lasers. Holy **** that would be the best ****ing thing ever!

I dont know if prince actualy plays the gutar of its sync'd in, but whatever, it still sucks, accordin to Dave Chapelle Prince can ball though.

I remember getting front row tickets like eons ago to White Zombie, Pantera, Deftones (when no one knew who the tones were back then) i coned my girlfriend into coming with me by jokingly telling her Prince was opening, she went and durring the deftones she says to me "when does prince come out" i just looked at her and said "yoru kidding right?" never the less, she was pissed

THE MAGGOT!!!!!! the show i saw in atlantic city...they played imortal corruptor and killed the pope...then gor-gor ate satan...it was awsome...and for those of you who have heard the pit stories or been there...i was front an center...then drove my camaro home...took a long time to clean the seats...

o yea...and as a guitarist...i would have liked to see prince fall of the stage and have the guitar impale him...it would be more epic that way

I think what it comes down to is that there's different types and levels of showmanship. While the "performance art" of GWAR definitely has it's niche (back when Slymenstra was in the band that fire dance of hers was killer!), in a venue like the SuperBowl, the idea is to pick a performer that will appeal to the widest audience, including children. If you had your hopes on a Nailbomb reunion show or a GG Allin tribute band, it ain't gonna happen. Prince has been making music since the late 70's and has released thousands of songs since then. He also recently released a record which makes him somewhat current. That makes him a logical choice, IMO. Is he kinda girly? Sure, but that's the performer image that made him famous and what he's known for. Guitar impalement is almost always cool, but probably not his style 8-)

Hey prince fans I hate to break it to you but prince sucks, I keep hearing he is a real great musician etc. In what way? No voice, average guitar player, and looks like shat, he looked more like those girls dancing next to him.

Everyone has their opinion but, "no voice, average guitar player?" Compared to who? I just wanna see what everyone's idea is of a "real" musician. Not meant to stir the pot or anything, just curious.

Ok damn, good choice. Not sure how CBS would react to the entire audience singing along to "Dead Embryonic Cells" though (notice I'm assuming you mean Sepultura Max and not Soulfly Max  ). Still, not in the same vein.

well, just really the first main stream name that came to mind who sings and plays, I like Phill Elselmo but never saw him pick up a gutar, I like Dimebag Darrel but some ******* in Ohio had to fill him with bulletholes for no aparent reason, I like Rob Cummings (AKA Rob Zombie) but he has no voice in concert and he dont play the gutar, Sherry did throw me a pick once and I will never forget it. I have to admit that I do like Soulfly. but growing up, listening to Van Halen makes me think of a way less stressful time in my life when you could spend all day in the summer time trying to figure out how to spend a $5 bill and workin on my mongoose, everythime I hear Van Halen rifs it brings me back ya know...

Pain of salvation = ****ing super talented on every single instrument (I'm including vocals as an instrument) and none of the dream theater pompousness. So my vote for singer and guitarist goes to Daniel Gildenlow.

OK, again Swedish prog-metal is cool but not in the same vein. I'm talking apples-to-apples comparisons (not apples-to-slabs-of-meat).

Bah, at least you could tell he was really playing, and really singing; not lip-synching and faking like so many other "pop stars" do. Prince's playing was a little sloppy; I'd think being hooked up to a powerful electrical PA system in a pouring rainstorm might make me a ~little~ nervous too. When he opened up at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction a few years back he played incredible.

Dio is back with the Sabbath guys, that would have been great. They could have played Children Of The Sea.

Here is a clip from the media area. Not bad for a camcorder shot.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=orYH23Bgnrk

I guess to like a Prince show you need to like old school R&B shows, like BB King or Buddy Guy might do, with horns, backup singers and all. Or even George Clinton/Parliment Funkadelic or Sly & The Family Stone, or James Brown. Not normal the realm of metal heads.

That Tele sounds great.

BonzoHansen

I didn't say you! I meant in general. No, that is a different clip all together.

I don't think it is fair to form an opinion of an artist based on such a short performace (in the rain no less) in a very controlled setting like that. Helll, there was a marching band involved, so he could not vary the script. It would be like saying Kerry King sucks based soley on the solo he played on the Beastie Boys hit You Gotta Fight.
