since im always tellin everyone that i wont have the car ready for driving/fbody gatehrings, i figured i'd take some time out and post up some "progress photos" of the car; i'd say im about 50% - 60% done with the whole entire project; my figurative deadline is my brothday: April 18th, and hopefully i can be finished then, to enjoy driving the car all spring/summer long. here are some pics, with brief descriptions:
1.for some reason i dont have any photos yet of the 1987 blue IROC-Z nose that i got cheap and sanded down, il have to shoot some
2. this is a chin spoiler off of another 1987 IROc camaro,a nd it is in great shape; i wetsanded it down with 220 grit, and filled in the small stone chips with some flexible epoxy, and then wetsanded all of that smooth - i like this chin piece because it has a really sharp point to it.

3. here is a shot of one of the front fenders; the other fender is out at a local shop near where i work, getting the antennae hole welded up ans smoothed(shaved)
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450019793/20.JPG
4. this is a shot of the fiberglass hood that i have been wetsanding down, and getting even smoother; even tho Glasstek makes some great hoods, there is still some work sanding it that ive done to make it even smoother; im debating on getting hood-pins - any opinions??
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450019793/1.JPG
5. another shot of the hood all wetsanded down
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450019793/3.JPG
- i havent sanded down the doors yet, i think i will be replacing the pass. side doorskin with a new one i got, because a mustang guy kicked 2 good sized dents in it a fewa years ago. so i still gotta sand down the d.s. door and both side-mirrors
6. i did however remove the fiberglass rocker panels or "gorund effects" and sanded them down to the fiberglass, and made some of the lines smoother on them also
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450019793/19.JPG
NOW ONTO THE ENGINE BAY WORK:
1. i removed the nose, chin, fenders, hood, lightbar, (obviously) and i was able to get in there closeup to the engine bay much easier to sand/scuff/ primer and paint.. before doing all fo that, i took some (alot) of time out to reorganizer the mess of wires and parts that GM threw in there, (the white is metal primer.
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450019793/2.JPG
2. i temporarially removed a lot of items like the coolant tank, battery, and otehr things (i also removed all of the heating/Ac components butt hat was about 6 months ago)
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450019793/4.JPG
3. for the 2 big holes in the firewall, i ordered a 2'x2' sheet of 1/th thick Brushed Aluminum, which i will custom cut to act as a firewall block off plate, and mount nicely there, i might even have a small engraved plaque made up stating : 1987 IROC-Z camaro, owner : Dave Martin 9we will see, i dont know yet), the brushed aluminum does look very very cool tho
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450019793/23.JPG
4. here is a photo of the passanger side inner engine bay finsihed with paint and clearcoat, and the drivers side looking as it did (which is why i got sick of looking at that ugly dull red and mess of ****)
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450019793/5.JPG
5. i also painted the 2 wells (battery tray,a nd the emissions canister tray) with a flat black Rustporrf and rest resistant type black paint; i also reorganized the wires and relays that were located in this area, makes for a much much cleaner look; the yellow mat will also help if any lookse battery acid escapes
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450019793/6.JPG
6. a closer shot of hte firewall, where hte brushed aluminum plate will be cut and fit to; thise 2 looms there are guna have to stay around that area, theres about 40 wires in each of them, and its not liek u can just go cut them and move things (Easily)
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450019793/7.JPG
7. another close up of the drivers side innr fender area, what a mess it was;
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450019793/8.JPG
8.not anymore; sanded it all down, smoothed out/filled in some holes there, and primered it (the white) and then sprayed it with 3 coats of red (from a spray can!!) cleaner lookin right?
img://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450019793/9.JPG
-the chrome thing at top is the windshield washer motor; for some gay reason GM made it blue, so i removed it, sanded it down, primered it,a dn painted it silver/chrome. to match the black/red/silver scheme of the car better
9. a different view of things
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450019793/10.JPG
10. i also sanded, primered and painted the metal structure that is nearby where the light bar goes, and all the metal iniside and outside of it, looks much better
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450019793/12.JPG
11. about 80% done witht eh engine bay work, painted the strut tower mounts a nice gloss black, unmasked everyhting (which took a while), and cleaed up a few things http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450019793/13.JPG
-i STILL have to remove ALLL of the SMOG PUMP/HOSES/Units and cap the ends of the A.I.R. tubes on my headers; but i have to wait till April when my car goes thru inspection; i dont want to remove all teh stuff, then fail inspection, then have to put it back on; as mucha s i HATE looking at that A.I.R. system mess there, ill be patient and rip it out after inspection
- i also still have to put on these AWESOME valve covers that i got from PACE perf. but i will wait on these also becaus i dont want them getting scrathced or damaged when removing the AIR stuff, or during the rest of the cars sanding/painting/re-assembly
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450019793/17.jpg
sorry for all the pics:
2 more
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450019793/14.JPG
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450019793/15.JPG
and then this is some of waht i accomplished today on my day off of work
-i wetsanded down the enire roof, and the front pillars, as well as the rear quarter panel ont eh drivers side, took about 5 hours
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450019793/16.JPG
AND LASTLY!! a teaser!
this is an IDEA i have for the paint/stripes; see the rims? i want to try to mimic that type of a pointed pattern; the design on the side of the cowl hood is jsut an IDEA, im not sure if i want the 2 otehr shades of darker red on there, but i DO want the Black stripe, and some thinner/smaller stripe there too, witht eh IROC-Z (NOT IN THAT FONT) to mimic the early camaro's and chevelles .. so yea
http://www2.propichosting.com/Images/450019793/22.bmp
a favor? could anyone creative photoshop those style stripes on the LOWER door area of my car (otehr pics available on my website) because i want to see what those style pointed stripes will look like on the lower part of the door (liek original IROCS, but stopping at a point before the front of the door? anyone ?
thanks for looking, sorry if there were so many pics, just wanted to post them for others to see and maybe learn from, or shed advice on!
oh, and sorry if a lot of my spelling is bad; i type fast and dont spellcheck often
