View Full Version : need help with ls1 FRCs
ok, i have a set of vette FRC for 99-02, the years with one fuel line.
Who has installed these on an f-body motor? i get the basic idea of it but theres several things in the way. Id like to know the tricks involved and what need to be moved or modified.
I hadnt planned on using them, but tonight i just tried laying them in place and it made a huge improvement with the looks. it basically completed it, so now i just wanna get them on, even if i rarely keep them on. And btw, yes they still say corvette but i dont mind considering the motor is basically for one.
I believe CJ has them but they arent stock vette ones. Anyone else?
EDIT: ok, i think i found out the simple mods needed. since i dont have AIR anymore thats a big help.

i got an idea- give them to me, its that easy!
lol, i messed with them and i gotta do a little more and make a hole for the fuel evap line, but other than that they fit pretty good now. Now it is the factory fresh touched up engine compartment of a stock LS1.....

It makes it clean, but it says Corvette, and that bugs me - a pet peeve I suppose. Does any make covers or some kind of plate to go over the word Corvette? Will they take any kind of filler & paint?
The engine bay looks great now.
lol i do plan on filling the "corvette" in and having melissa airbrush Camaro SS on it so even though itll be flat, it'll look like the writing is recessed. but there is another reason corvette can stay.

same reason hes got a huge stereo.... to enjoy his car lol
lol, my car will always have a/c and every option possible. i am not a weight nazi and i like to enjoy my car, not drive a rattle box. If its an all out race car thats one thing, but its also a show car, hence the extra work under the hood.
oh and for a even more noticeable comparison... here is the original setup from back in 2005....

I do see you the Leaf Removal Weight Reduction.
The air intake lid looks much better now.

If its for show...removing the A/C would clean up the engine bay. i dont want my A/C because all it does is get in the way and i prefer to have the windows down when its hot. and if you dont conform to what i tell you to do then ill cut joo mang. also corvette FRC's are ricey, fill them in ASAP
haha, well matt, by removing the A/C, the only noticeable change in the engine compartment would be the missing drier and the one main line really. everything else isnt seen to begin with. And even with tops off and windows down, some days are just too hot... keep in mind i have a truck with all 4 heated seats...im spoiled... lol i love my options.
as for the covers, i hadnt planned on using them until last night, had i decided earlier, i would alreayd have them filled and off to melissa for paint... but technically they do belong on that motor...

but having windows down doesnt remove the humidity on a hot summer day. i am keeping the ac in the 96, but its out of the 86

You have a very clean engine bay! I like it better without the FRC IMHO. My 2 LS1's engine bays are clean but not clean as yours

You have a bike to drive if it's really hot out, and roll down the windows, and i dont even remember if that thing has t-tops. Last summer it got pretty hot, there was only maybe 1 or 2 days where I wished for A/C, but there's something called manning up that you do to overcome that.

well said kasey.... well said. my first car had no AC and the passenger window was stuck shut. whenever it got too hot i was more concerned about it overheating then i was about my own temperature
