New to the forum and just dropping in to say hey. Just like the name says...'79 Trans Am. Needs a ton of work. Body is straight, but the undercarriage is shot and so is the lame-a** 403 Olds motor it came with. Planning a budget build from the ground up. Joined to find other gearheads in my area for tech support and the occasional cruise (When I get the car finished in 2034).

Good eye, Firebird600. That is indeed a T/A; in fact, I believe it's a WS6. Sadly, it's not mine. The one in the foreground- the bombed-out depleted one- is mine. Both cars used to belong to a buddy of mine, who sold both of them. I got the '79, another friend of mine has the other.
I'm planning on a restification of sorts but on a budget. I already yanked the 403 and trans and was going to rebuild the 403...until I discovered that it was so rusted I couldn't even pull the heads off of it. Or the intake. Or anything else for that matter. Since it's not a numbers matching Bandit car or anything more than a smog-restricted, horsepower choked standard T/A, I'm going to have fun with it. I've got a bunch of stuff left over from my high school/college Camaro days that I plan to pass on to this one, and I'm going to build a Chevy stroker for it. Basically, it'll be a cruiser with a little bit of show and a little more go. No trailer queen or biannually driven garage queen; when the weather's decent enough, I plan on driving it.
I am located in Wantage, NJ (Just north of Sussex Boro). Just bought a house here, and my ride is still down in Piscataway. I plan to have it hauled up here soon so that I can tear it down and get the build going. First order of business will be new floor pans; I currently have Fred Flintstone brakes. Already have the pans from Year One, just have to get the car up here and weld them in.
Got some pictures stored, so as soon as I explore this forum a little more and figure out how to post the pics, I'll get them posted for your disapproval

Where in Wantage do you live? My grandfather and my uncle run a dairy farm on Rt. 565 between Plains Road and Beemer Church Road.

Thanks for all the well-wishes and hellos. I know, I know...a Chebby in a Pontiac could be looked at as sacrilage, but it's a little easier to stomach when there was originally an Olds motor in it. Besides, a 455 build will cost a little more than the 350 build as I already have full gasket sets and a few intake manifolds lying around.
Fleetwiz, I'm looking forward to hitting The Chatterbox in the spring, but I'll be there in my Jeep long before the car is done. 8-)
All of my pics are on sony image station right now, but I'm not happy with it. I'll post 'em up when I get them changed over to a more viewable format.

Tru2Chevy, I'm not far past that farm (I think it's the one on the left if you're going towards the airport). I'm near Lake Neepaulin off of 639 by the airport.

Yup, it's on the left if you are heading up towards the airport. They have a big Space Farms billboard on the corner of the property, as my grandfather is friends with the owners of Space Farms.
We'll have to meet up at the Chatterbox sometime when I'm up there for a weekend visit or something.
