View Full Version : Trouble Separating the IAC Housing from Throttlebody...

Well, here we go. I bought a 52mm throttlebody off an Ebay vendor. The part looks great, I just have to swap my original IAC housing onto it. However, I CANNOT separate my 20-year old throttlebody to get that damn piece off. I snapped 4 of the 7 screws (stupid coolant passages corroded them I think) holding the IAC housing on and the gasket is completely solid. Any suggestions for getting that housing off???

Tap it with a rubber mallet?

Look at the bright sdie: A new IAC wouldn't hurt anyway. Those little stepper motors get tired after awhile. :)

Billy, I've tried beating the hell out of it with a rubber mallet, to no avail. I even used a mallet and chisel to try and cut through the old gasket, but it's sloooooooow going. Need something faster just so it doesn't turn into an all day affair to install a throttlebody. :)

And Jeff, I replaced the IAC only a few years ago. I'm a cheap sumbitch and don't wanna replace it again. ;)

try a little heat with a torch, not to much. I had the same problem. I had 3 bolts snap. It that dont work you can purchase a brand new housing.

Like Fast said, your next option is to try a little heat.

i had a throttle body stuck to my EGR housing which was stuck to my upper intake...after hitting the TB with a rubber mallet a few times it actaulyl cracked in half. still couldnt get the EGR housing off. you may have to buy a new one

Bah, not what I wanted to hear. Allrighty, I'll see my friend with the torch tomorrow and hopefully that does the trick. I really only need the IAC section anyway, since I did the !TB heater mod. If I break the other side with the coolant port, I don't care. :) I'll keep you all updated, thanks for the ideas!

Heat will prbably screw up the IAC anyway.

Ah, a good point. I will remove it before abusing the throttlebody any more. Thanx!

Update, I got that sucka apart yesterday, and installed my new 52mm TB. I wound up using a small chisel and hammer to cut through the gasket and pry the housing away from the TB. Thanks for all the tips guys!
