Here is the deal with the GTA. I bought the car back in early October with about 108K on the clock. The car ran flawless and I have done quite a bit of restoration to it. At this point all the car needs is for me to install the suspension pieces I have and get it painted. Here is a summary of the car:
Engine
Bone stock 5.7 liter TPI. It looks like it may have an msd distributor cap but that is it. It has a brand new battery, alternator, water pump, serpentine belt and I had GM delete the oil cooler thing since it was rotted out and didn’t really do anything but make the coolant hotter. The engine starts right up every time and runs nice and cool. I don’t see any oil leaks or anything negative about it. The car is pretty quick with plenty of low end torque. The exhaust system was rotted out so I had my Meinike do a custom Loudmouth 2 exhaust. It’s a single in/out and tucked up in the body so you can’t see it at all. The car sounds a bit louder then stock at idle and pretty laid back with normal driving. When you open it up a bit the exhaust sounds really nice.
Transmission & Brakes
When I first got the car I had the power purge plus from Aamco done where they drop the pan, change the filter and change all the fluid. They said the trans was perfect, may have been rebuilt at some point. It shifts nice and firm, one of the better 700r4’s that I have driven. It has a 3.23 posi, disc rear. I had Aamco change the rear gear oil and put new bolts all around the cover. They also put in new axle seals on both sides since they were leaking a bit. Aamco rebuilt the rear calipers and put some new brakes pads in there. I replaced the front rotors, wheel bearings and pads. The car stops really well, the only thing I wanted to do this summer was get stainless steel brake lines done.
Suspension, Wheels & Tires
A few months ago I put up a post that my driver side strut tower was a little rotted out. I had the body shop repair the rust damage and put a new strut tower in. At the same time I had them replace both front shocks with the KYB GR-2’s and replaced but front strut mounts with the KYB stock replacements. I then had the car aligned. I have plenty of suspension parts that I haven’t put in yet including: new rear KYB shocks, SLP take off pan hard rod (with new bolts), Spohn poly end links and bushings for the front and rear sway bars and, a Mac STB (installed).
The front GTA wheels were in great shape but the rears left a bit to be desired. I found 2 better rears in good shape and had them installed. I got rid of the rotted out GoodYears that were on the car and installed a set of Firestone Firehawks that I had left over from my old TA. The car rides very smooth now and doesn’t follow the lines in the road anymore. The front tires have about 55% tread left and the rears have about 80%. The GTA wheels have their center caps and I bought the dust shields to keep them clean.
Interior
The interior of this car is really nice. The GTA seats are in very good shape, headliner is perfect, visor are very nice and have mirrors! I replaced the center console lid, steering wheel (with one from a 92 firebird) and shifter (brand new GM to match steering wheel). The dash pad is perfect and the cup holders on both doors are in great shape. Carpet is good in the front and rear and the sunshade is there but it is a little faded. All gauges, buttons and general functions all work like they should and the car has the original factory cd player and mats. Currently there is a brand new Pioneer headunit (50x4), CD player and front Aux input. In addition, I will include a brand new set of GTA floor mats.
Body
Overall the body is in good shape however it will need some prep before paint. There are few dings here and there but overall it is ok. All GFX’s are there and are in good shape, the aero wing is in good shape, the doors do not sag at all, hatch pull down works perfect, hatch struts and hood struts are good and all the original emblems are there. The rare 91/92 taillights are in good condition with no cracks or anything. The front fog and parking lights were replaced and the headlights work perfect.
I have about $6000 invested in this car and I would really just like my $ back so I am at $5,500. I will consider trades. I have some pictures of the car if you would like to see them. Please let me know if you are interested.
Thanks,
Damien
BTW, the car passed NJ inspection in Oct so the sticker is good for just under 2 years.
