When I had my WS6 and hit some hard times my wife said sell the car, I said no and changed my mind and did it. She saw it was one of the hardest things on me when it drove off from our house. A month later I bought the 10th and we recovered.
She knows the Hot Rod means alot to me, **** I'll get rid of my boat and other toys in a blink of an eye first.

How many of you that say your car/bike/whatever come before any woman are actually married/engaged/in a serious committed relationship? How many have had a serious relationship last more than 6 months? I'm going to guess very few.
The woman should come first (assuming she is worth it - if she's just a ***** buddy or a hold-me-over-til-I-find-someone-else, then whatever). This is what made a couple of my relationships fail, as I was always the back up plan.
Priorities people. Hence why James is now my fiance, as his priorities were straight from the moment we started dating.
And I don't mean throw the hobby away once you meet that perfect woman...but the woman should come first.

I am in a serious committed relationship (3+ years) and have never had a conflict between my g/f and my car. She knows how important my car is to me, and thats fine with her, and infact she claims to like the car too.
When we first started dating my g/f made a critical comment about my car. I simply pulled over and asked her if she would like to walk home. She said "no", and I told her than be happy your in a car.
Infact I have her so brainwashed she is now calling out Firebird models down to a year + or - before I do.

You just gotta know when to say when. Setting those expectations early on helps. Hell, when we were dating, she helped me wet sand my Trans Am. My wife is good for me, she knew I wanted a car (not sure she expected multiples), and she lets me do what I want, as long as I stay within reason. I guess she figures it keeps me out of trouble, and keeps me happy. Plus I let her do what she wants. I think some guys miss that, they don’t want their girls/wives going out w/o them. That is dumb-it has to be give & take. She goes out with her friends and I’ll stay home with the kiddies. Everyone is happy.
I have also learned to read the signs when I am pushing my luck, which is often.

A lil off topic but If anyone knows a chic that i could easily go out with till january and then break up do to my shipping date, it would be greatly appreciated. I want to bring a pic of a girl to put on the "wall of shame".

If you're shipping out in January, save yourself the drama (and money) and just stay single. Keep your goals in focus and don't introduce anything that'll distract you from what you plan to do.

Agreed. Make sure she knows what she's getting into ahead of time. It minimizes complaining later on. When you are in throw away relationships you can say whatever you want, but when you are in something you want to keep you will make sacrifices. Just take the precautionary measures to make sure that they are not too great.

No it's just too hot and restrictive.
All you guys thumping your chests saying how you'll build in expectations early on, blah, blah, blah. When you find someone worth more than a few months of attention, you'll either change your priorities and decide shes more important, or you'll move on to the next short term relationship.
What you SHOULD be saying is - she will always be more important, but she'll learn through you how much you enjoy your hobby and how much of a stress reliever it is, thereby keeping both of you sane.
Married almost 12 years now. Definately :whip: but I also have what I want. 8-)

i've been with my girlfriend for over a year and a half and she knows that my plan after school includes more than one car and i don't mean just a car & beater. she is really for the whole "hybrid car" movement and her parents have one. i don't have any problem with it but i don't expect to drive one everyday myself.

Of course there will be the woman who is just as into the hobby as you, or will let you do a lot. But not all women are that easy going about it. But you should still make them feel as though they are a priority...don't always have to be the TOP priority. But don't get mad at the woman when she leaves you because you put the car way above her.
Besides, there's a difference between racing every weekend or working on your car a couple nights a week, but you still spend a lot of time with her and if she wants to do something one weekend or one night you agree, and always preferring your car over going out with her. I've seen quite a few relationships like that, and they have always ended because the guy would rather go to the track or work on his car than hang out or go out with the woman.

Let me clarify, I said that at the moment; all i cared about this afternoon was fixing & getting the car running and she misunderstood me. She doesn't understand the idea of modifying cars but she respects what I put into it and its just a mutual thing that never comes up
And yes this is a serious relationship. Going on 1.5 next week.
Everythings all good though. It was a temporary wtf

We make jokes about how much I like my car and everything but deep down she knows she's always first ;-) She also helps me do a lot of stuff on it; ever see a girl lay under the car with you to support the gas tank or help put in long tube headers

well i might as well add my 2 cents... everyone who knows me knows im whipped... been good friends with my girl since she moved here and goin out "officially" about a year and a half now... its kinda like bonzo said she likes the car she doesnt quite understand what im doing sometimes but she just lets me go cuz it keeps me outta trouble and she knows its 2nd on my list of priorities while she comes first.... but on the flip side when she wants to do something ill normally do what she wants and she knows it so it works out win win

this is one interesting post haha i'm 20, been w/ my g/f over 3 years; some people say I'm missing out on the college experience...maybe so, i've known her my whole life just about, she knows what i'm about.
its not a matter of putting a car or a woman first. i don't agree with mens obsession with their cars being the reason why so many relationships fail....after all, i love my car she loves her clothes. Do I kick and scream everytime she wants to go shopping? well, maybe a little but besides that if you're not with a girl/woman that can respect, appreciate, and even participate in your hobbies than she isn't right for you in my mind. she knows she and the cars are important in different ways.
and holy ***** i wish my g/f could wet sand, for now i'll be happy with the lemonade hahaha
good luck w/ the next girl

In addition she can identify a firebird/formula from a trans am from the bumper and/or spoiler (4th gens). and can identify 1st gen camaros by year based on their various attributes 8-) so proud haha.
