View Full Version : just used up my nine lives

I know I haven't been around much lately- been really busy. Finishing up my MA in Corp and Org Comm, and working towards my MBA in Marketing- all while writing my thesis.... so I've been busy. However, I wanted to jump on and tell this story... just to get it off my chest.
This morning, at around oh- 9:45 or so- I was on Route 287 South, getting onto Route 24.... some of you might know where that is. Well, EVERYONE speeds like freakin crazy there, obviously. I've been going to FDU for 5 years now- never once even seen a cop on that road with a radar gun.... until today.
Admittedly, I was going pretty fast- I had a beamer on my rearend and he was doing 80+ and I needed to get over to the right. Well- all of a sudden I see a cop on the right side- he's out of his car, and I slow down, thinking maybe he didn't get me.
Needless to say, I turn onto Route 24, going towards FDU, and the cop pulls up right on my butt. At this point I know I'm probably getting pulled over, so I slowed to like 45.... sure enough, cop puts on his lights.
Comes up to the car, does the usual license, reg, insurance- and then says those words "87 in a 55". I was like... HOLY crap.... couldn't believe I was going that fast. I hadn't seen the officer there, but he obviously had the gun out. I told him that I didn't think I was going 87- and all he did was go and get his gun and show me- 87. Man... I knew I was done... 30+ over. So, I just nodded and agreed with him- not much else I could do. He was asking me where I was going, and I told him I work as a GA and told him that I'm a graduate student working on my degrees.... typical stuff.
So, I'm sitting in my car thinking... welp, that's it... gonna get written up for a 5point 30+ over the limit ticket. I was respectful though, didn't argue, and simply agreed with him, telling him there was no excuse and I don't usually speed.
He comes back to my car in a couple minutes, and says "well Kevin... I'm going to issue you a warning.... if I catch you again......." man, i FREAKED. I think I wanted to jump up and hug the dude, lol... couldn't have been happier.
Well, even though everyone goes nuts on rt 287- I'll be going 55 from now on. After that run-in- with no idea why he showed me so much leniency- I'm going to act like next time I get pulled over for anything, its over. Cuz I used up my nine lives.
Anyway, just thought I'd post the story...... hope everyone is well.

i had something liek that happen, i was at the wawa right infront of william paterson and lets say i could of lost my liscence for a year because of some beverages i may or may not have consumed earlier in the night. the cop let me off with a provisional liscence ticket (i had my liscence for 3 years but never changed it) and careless driving i think. but the cop i had didnt say "well brandon.... im only gonna give you 2 tickets" he said "you should be sucking my @#$* right now!" and he wasnt a small guy (easily 6'3 200+ lbs, african american) needless to say i almost crapped myself
if your nice, respectful and a college student theres a rare chance that they'll let you off

Bulls**t. How about working a 10 hour day, a week before Christmas, dealing with ahole customers, leaving work one day, and being pulled over into a speed trap, and being handed a ticket for speeding.

Man, that's good you were let go! Most of the times (as you found out), being respectful goes a loooooong way to staying out of trouble.

I was thinkin' that, but didn't wanna say anything since I graduated from Willy P, oh 11 years ago. Dayum I'm old, and so is that 7-11!

Only time I've ever been pulled over is when a cop said I wasn't wearing my seat belt and they were doing the "click it or ticket". He came up to my window, and I was wearing my seatbelt as I always do. He claimed he saw me put it on when he stopped me. I argued with him and don't even need to say I got a ticket for it.
A cop pulled up behind me in a parking lot once for my window tint. He called for backup and was being a real big d^ck. The other cop came and he actually owned a Z. We shot the **** and they just let me go with blacked out windows

i was pulled over 3 times in new brunswick with the srt-4. two of those times, it was the same cop... who owns an srt-4. hehe... we'd talk about mods and then part ways
the other time... well... he wasn't as big of a fan of neons, but i got a loud exhaust ticket after doin 40ish in a 25 and having expired reg.... so im not complaining

No you wont. You go 55 on 287 and you'll get killed. I drive 287 everyday as well, heading up to Florham Park for work. While I do drive northbound, I've found that you MUST go at LEAST 70 to keep from getting run over. The trick is to be between two cars when passing the radar gun. What's better is being beside a tractor trailer - nice blocker. 8-)

lol, agreed. 287 is one hell of a road to drive on- the 55 mph speed limit is a complete joke. But... eh, a limit is a limit. But yeah.... i was BSin with that a bit... 70ish will probably be the norm still... i'd rather get a ticket then get run over :)
