Since when did Toyota become the #1 brand? I still belive that Ford and Chevy battle it out. I remember Scott talkign about how for 2005, Chevy was #1 and he put his USA-1 license plate back on his car.

BigAl, from a camaro standpoint 73s did not have cats. I thought cats did not become mandatory until 74?

Also, GM is number 1 but Chevrolet alone is not a big as Toyota (minus Scion and Lexus)

1975 was cats and HEI same year the cats did not work with point ignition --and the cup holder was incorrect at 82 - the earliest car i seen with them was a 1965 P5 Rolls LIMO but only in the rear -- 1973 1/2 on all silver shadows SWB and LWB cars and convs - had cup holders from than on -- jz

Neg...they said BRAND, not company. You wouldnt compare Toyota Motor Corp vs Chevy Divison...that would be stupid.
Nor would you compare GM vs Toyota Division.

Chevy sells more cars then Toyota BRAND VS BRAND. Ford and Chevy always fight for #1. Toyota Motor Corp is trying to beat General Motors for WORLD WIDE sales of all there divisions.

from a business standpoint- strictly numbers at end of 2006 gm was still number one and toyota jumped into fords number 2 spot.it is expected that toyota will be number one by the end of this year and gm is working on gaining its position back for late 2008..

Again, not what Im talking about. The question was, what BRAND was #1 in 1962 and 2006.
They said that Toyota was the #1 brand in American for 2006. This is incorrect. The fact that they arent even #1 in the world is irrelivant, they are comparing divisions. Chevy is not a company, its a division. So they must be comparing divisions, as the other names were also of divisions of motor companies, not the company as a whole.
So the point still stands, Toyota was not #1 for car sales in 2006. Not even #2, as a division.

They have been saying that Toyota will take over #1 for years now, and 06 was supposed to be the year. It wasnt. While GM is losing ground here in the US, they are gaining a lot of ground everywhere else. Buick is #1 in China, which will be the largest car market in the world as it already blew past Europe in just a few years. In Europe, the revitalization of Opel/Vaux and the introduction of Chevrolet is boosting sales there. South America is also doing well, and Holden is doing great with there new VE/WM cars.

Only in the home market is GM falling, partly due to image, but GM is cutting a lot of low-profit fleet sales. Good news is that retail sales are increasing, which means more profits for GM.
