In a 06 cobalt ss, after the car is put into drive, and turned off, some times, you turn the key, and it wont come out, then it will click and then you can take the key out, We took it to a dealer, but all they did was scan the car and say nothings wrong..

so? you woul think that if the dealer tells you that your car is ok, than maybe it is.

wow, just the responce i thought id get, im looking for serious input, it only does it for a while and some times you can take the key out right away, and the others you have to wait, or keep trying

sounds like the mechanical release cable the senses the shifter in park is binding up or isnt lubricated enough. i may be completely wrong since i never touched one of those cars, so its just a THEORY. Now if it allows you to turn the key fully to the off position and you just cant pull it straight out... then i have no clue.

in all seriousness, i had a similar problem with my camaro but they just replaced the whole ignition switch. the problem eventually escalated into my key not coming out at all

2006 Cobalt - matters not, it is a warranty problem. Report back when the dealer actually fixes the problem. SmokingSS is on the right trail, no doubt. I wonder why they did a scan for this problem.

he is probabaly right, I was playing around when it happened the other day and just hit the buttun on the shifter I heard a click and it allowed me to turn the key a tad more and then pull it out.

same problem, you might need a whole new ignition switch. bonzo is right, its the dealers problem, not yours. tell them you think it is that and for them to check it out.

haha me too with my cavalier. after i turn it past the key lock i can take out the key. Im not worried because you still need it to start the car 8-)

My corvette did that in the winter once. but it was the ignition switch getting stuck. I just replaced it...
