what would you guys suggest for a new clutch im in need of one...i was going to go with a spec stage one but have read a lot of poeple have had problems with them..And whats a good shop shop to install it?
Do you race the car? If not there's no reason to go with a heavy duty spec(or similar) clutch. I ran a Zoom clutch in my trans am and absolutely loved it. It was capable of cutting 1.779 sixty foot times yet the car drove better than stock. If you're looking for something cheap that works ya can't go wrong with this clutch.

As for installation I'd be willing to do it relatively cheap

i have SLP's cltuch package on mine (Billit steel flywheel, Z06 OEM clutch & pressure plate with has 20% more clamping force) and i LOVE it. I think (bu not 100% sure) they have one for LT1 cars. If they do, that is what i would recomend
yea they offer an lt1 clutch...my buddy went with that on his 95z and liked it alot.

SLP, Zoom or McLeod(single disk) are all good street clutches that can handle 400HP and trips to the track. I'm not a big fan of spec, heard to many bad stories about their lower level units, and the only one I ever drove chattered something horrible.
The LT1 hydrolic clutch/flywheel does not have much extra meat on it for resurfacing, so if it does need to be cut you may be required to shim it. Another option is to just by a GM replacment or upgrade to the SLP light weight flywheel. The SLP FW is not cheap, but it is top quality.
I ran the SLP FW and McLeod button facing clutch for 50K with lots of track time. It was just started to slip when hot lapping when I pulled it.

I'm running a GM Replacement from Sachs with a new OEM Fly-Wheel. It still grabs pretty well with 20+ passes on a stock motor, and even on the new Heads & Cam set-up. My biggest complaint is it chatters like a MOFO even after being out of the car 3 times.

I had a Spec and hated it. Replaced it with the McLeod single disc and it never failed me.
