I was thinking of throwing a Holly Dominator 1150 4 barrel and a Edelbrock Performer Cylinder heads. would it fit on my 350? I'm trying to get some parts for my engine and I know that the limit of horse power should really be about 400HP for the 350 SB. what are some other good things to really get some nice power? other than switching out the block or adding nitrous.

What's the rest of your combo? Right of the bat, 1150 is way too much CFM for a 350 and Performer heads won't support that kind of flow. In most cases, a 600-650 CFM carb is plenty for a 350 sbc.

1150 dominator is a race carb, no choke. Is this a 350 pontiac motor or a chevy motor? Edelbrock makes carb / intake / cam kits which I hear work well on chevys. If its a pontiac motor and your looking strictly for preformance gains IMO save your cash unless you do heads as well. Chevy has a good manifold into head design where aftermarket parts will make a noticable difference. I dont know about pontiac, buick, oldsmobile, cadallac tho. If your looking for better throttle responce, smoother idle, easier start up and the rochester is not providing you with that I would try to rebuild it at first. Submerge the metering block in the dip for 30 min and replace all the parts in the carb which come in the kit. Clean off the metering rods and check float depth. invest $15 in running new vaccume lines and carb gasket. Other options are holley street avenger or street demon i think their called, and the regular edelbrock or carter spread bore 600cfm 4 barrels which require an adapter to the manafold or a new square bore manafold.

That is way too much carb. Not to mention that it's a 4500 flange rather than a typical 4150 style, so you need a special manifold or adaptor to get it to work on your intake manifold (that's not to say it will even perform optimally that way). Plus, as already mentioned, it has no choke.

If I were you I'd look for a 600-650 cfm vacuum secondary Holley or Edelbrock. Both are good and will work well with your combo.

yeah way too much carb for a 350, I tried an edelbrock 600 and 650 on my 327 and both of them wouldnt perform very well. Tossed the 600 on my dads 307 (stock) and it works great! The 650 was my friends. Went with a speed demon 650 on the 327 and it works great! The motor is mild, but its built. I dont know what you plan on doing but sounds like youre shooting for the same ball park that I am in, and the 650-700 demon or holley would work great!

no doubt, if you still have a rochester (unless the throttle bushing in the metering block is worn excessivly) i would reccomend a rebuild. Those are some good running carbs for sure. Why do you think rebuilts are so expensive? Ive replaced rochester with carters and eledbrocks and always had some god damn trouble with idle, choke, even backfiring (due to lask of dashpot) why do you think you see nothing but rochesters on stockers, NHRA allows holleys if it was an option from the factory. I bought this book when I ran my SS/JA its got a lot of good info in there you can benifit from and save money I highly reccomend it http://www.amazon.com/Rebuild-Modify-Rochester-Quadrajet-Carburetors/dp/1932494189

Dominators aren't really meant for the street. I'd go with a more conventional carb like a holley 4150 or Edelbrock Carter style. How many miles on the motor? What are your intentions? You dont want to go nuts bolting on nice ported heads, a tall cam, intake, etc if you have like 120k miles on the short block, you'll most likely blow it up.

if you're lookin for a match check out the matching edelbrock if you wanted to. I'm buildin a 355 for my street/show '69 the short block is done, I'm thinkin about just running the edelbrock top end package lookin for ~425hp, comes w/ polished heads, intake, and carb. At this point I'm thinkin 650cfm thunder AVS. I've heard good things about demon street carbs too. But the cfm originally listed was WAY too much. Good luck.

If its for street use, a 650 Holley is perfect (vaccum 2nd) if its for street/strip go for a 700-800 model manual choke.

Like these guys said, a 600-750 carb is plenty. The Rochester Q-jet is a great carb with the smaller primaries which will be a little better on gas if you drive without mashing the pedal all the time. A 650 would probably be perfect. My 396 is currently running a 750 and making around 425-450 hp so you probably won't need that much but it all depends on your combination.
