they're morons... they don't know how american car's are rated HP wise
they're also morons because the people that buy cars like that dont want IRS, they want a solid axle that can take a lot of abuse.
they also fail to realize that all american performance cars arent built to be comfortable and quiet, we like loud and we like feeling everying on the road. if we didnt, we wouldnt drive these cars :)

i do love the line when it is going around the course "wallowing about like a friskey hippo." lol
the msutang is a huge improvement from previous generations, but it still isn't living up to the hype. i guess we can all point to fords history of over estimating hp and performance jsut to sell the product and see where that is going.
it is funny to me that it only managed to run the course in the same time as the monaro, a car with 100 less hp that weighs several hundred lbs more and costs much much less. chalk up another win for GM :)

and how is that? hp is shown via a formula that relates torque to engine rpm and the formula is the same all over the world.
flywheel vs rear wheel... ?

ok british guy here be nice. Those portable rr's run slightly low in the hp anyway my old supra ran just over 545bhp on a proper dyno and 504bhp on one of the portables. Unfortunately the cars over there tend to handle so much nicer (as i said be nice) but they have to as there is not one road near where i used to live that has a mile long straight its all mountain roads.
I've also driven an '05 mustang gt on the roads there as a friend had imported one and yes on the straights i loved the sound and power (for being stock) but on the corners it inspired no confidence so you could push it. Thats why they would have been down on the gt500 plus top gear is now more of a talk show than a car show.
hopefully didn't get someone too mad lol

Ford claims 500hp at the flywheel
they dynoed 446 at the wheels
500hp w/ 15% drivetrain loss is 425hp
it makes over 500hp

:stupid:
that's what i was thinking when they did all that, you'd think a car show with all this cocky attitude :bs: would consider something like that

the numbers advertised by US manufacturers are net, not flywheel. so it should be much closer than that.

I want nothing more then to make a spoof of their show and send it to them, using like an old Jaguar XJS and say how rubbish it is, and stuff, then find an MGB that are around here and such. dont get me wrong british cars are pretty fit, but just like ferraris' besides the XJ220 and XJR-15, jaguar really hasent brought anything out on the market worth drooling at, aston martin, are nice, but waaayyy over price, and i think the only decent cars over there are the ol' cosworth escorts, and those rare opel lotus omega's they used to make, they were quick as hell with a 3.6 litre inline 6 twin turbocharged, only like 400 were made, after that, yeah, not much in their feild, oh and the McLaren, but onceagain, waayyyy too expensive

if htey coudl find a vehicle in from their own marketplace that could compete for the same/similar price, i am sure they woudl take the time to compare it. the truth is that you can't beat the value to performance ratio of american sports cars. that is why we end up with a 70k Z06 compared to a 130k ferrari and a 45k CTS-V compared to an 80k jag, that is simply as close as they can get to comparing the peak of the american market to the peak of the european market in anything other than miniture gas savers.

net horsepower is still rated at the flywheel.
SAE used to use "gross" power ratings. that meant there were no belt driven accesories except the water pump. now they use "net" horsepower ratings with means they keep all the belt driven stuff on the motor.
