OBD1 PCM with a OBD2 Connector :evil:

im sure many of you have seen this problem before.

I have a 1995 Camaro. The PCM on the 1995 3.4L V6 is OBD1 compliant. The connector to my PCM is an OBD2 style connector. :evil: :evil: :evil: This causes a connection problem between the PCM and any scanners that I have previously tried. After about driving for aroudn 15 minutes, the SES light will come on. I NEED NEED NEED to find a way to scan it as this has been a problem for a while now. I know you used to be able to short the pins on the old style connectors. Are the wires the same? if so does anyone know which OBD2 pins coincide with which OBD1 pins and so forth. If not, does anyone know which scanner, IF ANY, will work for this problem? This is extremely frustrating.

Pathfinder scanner, they come with cartridges and cables so you can use it for both OBD I and II. It's not cheap tho. lol

well... i just realized a somewhat LARGE problem ... check out this diagram i drew up....

the top is a obd1 setup...

the second one is the standard obd2 setup....

the third one is my setup... the colors in the boxes on the bottom one is the color of the wires going into the back of my connector... wherever there is color is where a pin is.... wherever the white is there is no pin... obviously there is a problem

if you do a search here you should be able to find the two pins that you need to jump. I know there are several others that have '95s as well, and they have used these two pins to read codes.

i tried jumping the ones that i thought it would be or followed... maybe im doing it wrong but the SES light doesnt flash ...

No,sorry - it won't. The pinouts are to connect your car to an OBDI scanner and cable.

so if i knew someone with an obdI scanner i could follow the picture above and it will read? the picture in that thread above*

im kinda confused as to what to do to figure this out... i took it to autozone and they scanned it with their scanner that can read obd1 and 2 codes but he used an obd2 connector because thats what would fit... do i get an obd1 scanner.. and use the pin things insert them into the corresponding holes and match it up with the scanner?

To properly scan the car you need to use an OBDI scanner and connector. Use the picture in the link I posted to connect the OBDI connector to your OBDII port using those jumper wires.

oh... sounds good... so i can buy an obd1 scanner for like 30$ right? ... and also what kind of jumper wires are they? looks like i can probly make them myself?

Nothing fancy - just regular old wire. Prolly easiest to solder small alligator clips to each end of both jumper wires so you can attach and detach them easily.

hmm... good thinking... what about the pins i was kinda thinking of getting the pins out of an old stereo harness and wiring them in? would that work?

i went to autozone and got the scan tool... it didnt work... the lights dont flash just stay solid
