well, it was a long evening to say the least. the results were good though and the car got home in one piece.
the start of the evening was a bit rough. the pole sitter in the heat is notexactly known for his precision driving skills as much as his ability to make going in a straight line look very exciting. randy started towards the back because of the handicapping and ended up paying fo it before they even got through turn two where the 9jr. had spun and left randy with no place to go.
the result was a bunch of twisted up left front body work and a pin holed brake line.
a team close that was pitted near by hadthe line we needed, big thanks to the 7A Tuckahoe Turf crew. line replaced, brakes bled, good to go. then the rain came and we got to wait a while.
after the rain randy went out for the consi, 6 spots transfer to the feature and only 6 started, so it only went 4 laps to determine starting spots instead fo the usual 8. randy had the privilage of starting last because of the handicapping again, but this time he made something of it. made it up to 3rd.
because of the weather delay the schedule was compressed a lot and we only had about 15mins to turn the car around from the consi and get it ready for the feature. the car was a bit tight in the consi so the call was made to pull the poiler because it was the only fix we really had time for before the feature.
it worked ok for a while, but the extra sliding around and lack of forward bite heated up the right rear tire and the combination went away.
it took some 'aggressive' driving, but randy managed to claw his way from a 21st starting spot all the way up to 7th.
the new motor worked good all night, ate a lot fo gas which is something we will have to look into, but performed very well.
the team is defiantely heading in the right direction and the pieces are starting to fall into place nicely.
hopefully justin will have a few pics to post up of our expert body work so you can all see what a true master can creat with a hammer and a wooden blcok. lol

make sure the oil is not getting a lot of the gas ( OIL SMELLS RAW ) -- the motor will not be new long - rings might not have seated totally ( skipping ) or are un seating as happens - lots of reasons for that - just some soft run time might help --- hope it clears up soon -- jz

it is partially the result of the amount of moisture and grip in the track. if the clay stays damp on the sorface it has a lot of grip and what you end up doing is rolling hard in and out of the throttle, this uses the accelerator pumps more. under normal conditions when the track dries out over the course of the evening and gets slick, you will spend a lot more time off throttle when setting the car for the corner.
the plugs will be puled so that hte engine builder can take a look at them just to be safe, but we are pretty sure it is just the track conditions.
there didn't seem to be any excessive fuel smell to the exhaust and there was never even a mist of smoke or anything.

Yea, it was a busy night for us, but with Tim and I going nuts on the body work and Randy and his dad getting the brakes fixed and bled, things went pretty smoothly.

I'll post up some pics later tonight.

BTW - This makes 4th, 5th, 7th, and 8th place finishes for Randy so far this year.

jsut got back from bodywork detail. door actualy cme out pretty good, the inner wing we will call functional for now. lol
once all the other maintanence stuff is taken care of we will take care of the bent tabs on the body mount and then it is jsut scaling and getting everything together for saturday night.
engine builder looked at the plugs, they are fine. lots of grip + lots of time on the throttle + bigger jets to support more power is all that the fuel consumption was about.

The door definitely could have used some work, but if you managed to get the wing any better than it was on Saturday, I would call that pretty good.

(and pics will be posted tonight, I promise)
