View Full Version : New shoes for the SS!

I finally got new tires for the 70 SS yesterday. Those old BFG Radial TA's were probably older than most of the members here and the traction was horrible along with all those scary cracks in the tread and sidewalls. So I grabbed a set of Cooper Cobra GT tires in the same size 245/60/15 and it rides so much better. And since I was on the safety kick, I finally got around to pulling the right rear drum off to find a leaking wheel cylinder like I figured. Lots of brake dust being held together with brake fluid and stuck to everything! So the car might be ready for a longer distance drive in the near future. And of course, as I get home from the parts store, the 00 SS starts making some noise under the hood. I think it might be the water pump so I need to keep an eye on it for now.

Sucks that BFG stopped making the Radial's in that size. It sucks now, I have to be careful on the tires on the 72. Knock on wood.

Hey! They were mine! LOL Did you tell them you knew me?
I'm going with the Firestone Indy 500s. 235/60/15 - I'll order them Monday.

Give me an update a few months down the road. I'm still running the BFG s .

That's one point a guy at work kept making. Even if I did manage to find 4 BFG tires in that size, would I be able to find another one if something happened and I needed a replacement. The 245's still look so small compared to the 275's on the 00 SS. I think you can fit a 295/50/15 on the rear of the 2nd gen easily with the right wheels.

They've been listing them backordered for over 6 months. Even the 235's are tough to find right now.

Those screens said backordered a few weeks ago (and going way back). They said the Dunlops were backordered until 05/07, and now they are avilable.
Now I may do the Qualifiers in 245/60/15. Dammit.
