ok, i got real bored driving home from Autozone just now(they didnt have ls1 front crank seal) and I started thinking. This engine build idea is NOT for my SS nor any f/y body.

here goes, lol, I have always wanted to do a turbo build. I was thinking an aluminum ls1 block, top of the line rods, crank, and pistons, 241 heads, custom grind cam, rebuilt stock rocker arms, custom sheet metal intake, and headers coming up and forward into twin turbos and through a huge intercooler. Trans would be a mild-built TH350 with 3.73 gears out back, maybe also a gear vendors OD setup on the trans as well.

The motor would not be for all out performance, just to be "quick"(low 12s) and a crowd stopper. It would not get built for years, but i could start buying/gathering parts in several months.

I just figure i'll have at least 4 years to plan this all out, and build it then, or start if i have time which i doubt.

I just think popping the hood and seeing that setup would be amazing. haha

for a low 12 second turbo set up i would just go with stock/mild components. that isn't very quick to try to go with an LS1 that is already capable of cracking into the high 12's in f-body trim stock on a good tire.
if you do even a mild turbo set up, about 4-6psi, you can expect to have enough power to run high 11's in a fairly heavy car if the rest of the components are even close to matched.

vehicle weight would be around 4500 lbs...

and i just found this vid...

makes me wanna do this build SO much more now, and no, mine is not for a volvo

iron block not alloy -- and a 350 is not nearly as strong as a 400 -- it wont take the high torque at max shift points like the 400 if you want a 3 speed -- turbos and a loose convertor glide would be my choice -- jz

I agree with tim, its gonna be hard to only go low 12's with a turbo LS1

you'll probably end up in the 11's without even trying.

well im also considering doing a T56 manual trans setup, just would take a little more work and money. reason i said th350 is cause i already have a good one sitting in my garage with a shift kit and all.

iron block is also a choice, but i have the "241" 5.7 heads from my old motor i was gonna use, not sure how theyd fit on a 6.0L. i could do a 5.3L iron with the aluminum LS1 heads and twin turbo that....

im gonna go out on a limb and say youre gonna put it in an s-10...but i dont think they weigh that much so im probably wrong

To get a 4500 lb car into the low 12's calculates out to about 475HP. That's no proble for an LS with boost. Even two small turbo will make those numbers.

You're going to need to really beef up the T56 for that much bulk.

well, like i said T56 is an option only and would require more work than keeping an auto. I would like a trans with decent ability on the highway, since it'll more of a cruiser/dd than a race car. and yes i said DD, but keep in mind i have several cars at all times so a mild TT ls1 isnt anythign crazy. but the built ls1 auto transmissions are too much more than id like to spend. i figure if i run the pcm as a m6, and use a th350 of th400 id be ok. and let me say again, this is all hypothetical, nothign will be denifate for a while. i just wanna make sure my expectations can be met.

hell no, i used to like s10 V8 swaps, but not this.

EDIT: upon further research... vehicle curb weight is 5134lbs, but i will do some weight reduction, and the aluminum LS1 block would help, plus going to 2wd will drop a bunch of weight(front diff, t-case, front DS).. so 4500 is pretty accurate IMO

and as for the rear, it'll be a 14 bolt most likely.

1) wtf you putting it in thats 4500 or 5134 curb weight??? my dads new escalade weighs less then that!!!!!

2) why go tt with 2 small turbos when it would be easier and more economical to go with one bigger turbo....

3) if you go the easier route... you can show stop with a 88mm rather then 2 small turbos

4) i got 2 garrett gt-88mm's for sale..... CHEAPPPPP!!!!

'07 escalade weighs in at 5818....

2) why go tt with 2 small turbos when it would be easier and more economical to go with one bigger turbo....

...purely for the ability of just saying TWIN turbo, nothign else. lol

3) if you go the easier route... you can show stop with a 88mm rather then 2 small turbos

...again with the planned setup, one turbo on each side to the front of the motor is the look i'd be going for. The fabrication/placement is going to make up most of the athstetics of the build.

4) i got 2 garrett gt-88mm's for sale..... CHEAPPPPP!!!!

...sorry, im not buying anything for a while, even then, i have to research a lot more to see what sizes i would need.
