I may be wayyyy deep into this thing....but what's the possibility of putting a SR20DET or a RB26DETT motor/trans in an F-Body?

any thoughts?

anythings possible with enough time, fabrication, and money...how about 2JZNO****?

someone asked the same question on camarosource.ca a while ago, and he never got a straight answer, i don't know why you would want a nissan engine in an f-body but yes it could be done

Savage_Messiah

do it... i need an f-body around that sounds worse than mine

anythign can be done. As long as you have access to welding(help or by yourself), anythign can be fabbed up. id start with a tubular k member and start with the motor mock up. find a rwd trans thatll work and fit that in. use a chassi mounted tq arm to avoid having to worry about the tq arm on the tailshaft. driveshafts can be custom made to whatever length you need once motor/trans are in. headers would ahve to be fabbed up, kits are available. theres more than enough room to do it. i wish you luck, i love stuff thats different, who cares what others think, lol.

I just want to be different....and I may be able to get the engine/pcm/wiring harness/MAFs/and trans for relatively cheap, due to my connection overseas.

sounds like you should just buy a honda or nissan if thats the ***** your into boddy.

RB = RB family of engines, 26 = 2.6L, DE = dual overhead cam? not sure on that one...TT = twin turbo

what does LS1/LT1/anything tell you? nothing really

arent they skyline engines or something?

If you want to be different, throw an LS1 in a early 90's maxima.... not a nissan engine in a fbody....

or should I get a RX7 and throw a LS1 in it??

From wha' I hear that is a pretty schweet swap. The RX has a killer suspension set up, and the LS is a world beater of an engine. Plus the RX doen't look half bad, even though it is an import.

RB26DETT is the R34 skyline engine, then theres the RB25DETT, and i think the earliest ones had a single turbo 2.5 - RB25DET

SR20(det) is found in the 240SX...in japan anyway. JDM omg!

and bob....you know, an RX7 kinda looks like a bigger miata...:-P

rx-7 + ls1 = pure sex.... i really would like to do one of these inthe near future... ls1 is an awsome engine and combined with the light weight of an rx-7 its just rediculous.... plus IMO 3rd gen rx-7's are one of the nicest designed cars ever made... they really did a goo djob with that... id end up doing it to a 2nd gen probably because they are cheaper but still they are kool too... nissan motor in an f-body... is gross... they've hung people for less in other countries.... plehhh... i got a bad taste in my mouth

Eff that, make a modern Iron Duke 4th gen. Take the turbo 2.0 motor out of the Sky/Solstice, drop it in the Camaro, and crank up the boost!! Lighten the crap up out of it, and take it for some turns!!

Gallow 12 or a Gallow 24?

yeah, but to someone that doesnt know exactly what an LS1 is, i mean.

japanese engine codes at least give you displacement, induction, etc

if you guys think a JDM motor in an f body is so wrong... im sure you dont want to hear about my ideas for twin, side by side mounted I4 turbo motors from Lancer Evos.... haha, some of you heave heard me explain it and how it'd work.

...then theres my rear engine AWD 3rd gen concept...
...and my possible TT LS1 conversion project...

the rb26 motor is a very capable piece of engineering i would go for it if you've got the chance. RX7 v8 swaps are so much fun and they rock big time when they are finished.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do i've had experience with the sr20det, rb25det, 2jz and the rb36dett from previous cars and the rb26 and 2jz engines are amazing i wouldn't even hesitate to complete this swap

LOL....should've put my fire suit on with some of those fire retardant gel.

i guess it's kind of a split decision, about 1/2 of you say go for it, the other half thinks I should go spend some time at JDM-anonymous and pray to the shrine of american V8's.

I've done the V8 thing......now i'm just looking for something different....and my particular taste at this moment in time is such.

i think its a pretty interesting idea.

Off topic and back to the LS1 RX7, the LS1 T-56 combo only ways 55lb over the stock RX7 drivetrain. So that pretty much makes it the greatest conversion ever.

Mk, just by reading this thread, I see hwere he got the Idea. I unfortunately watched the F&F tokyo drift movie, and know wher he got this Idea, when he saw them take that S15 engine and put it in the Mustang. DOnt do it, its stupid, and its hollywood. You wanna be different, get yourself a cosworth engine and put it in that baby, that way It aint a V8 ( unless you use the Formula 1 engines of the 70's, which I doubt you could ever afford one) and yet, it wouldnt be japanese, and before you guys flame about its not american nor a chevy product, there was a little known car in the late 70's known as the Cosworth Vega, there were only about 1100 or somethign like that made ;)

Savage_Messiah

It just seems wierd to me to put a japanese motor in an american car. I understand you want to go the different route, and if it's extrememly fast then more power to ya. All I keep thinking about is you driving that car to a car show or cruise in and all the die hard "american guys" saying WTF is that, and why did you do that to that car. I think everyone is just used to putting a bigger motor in the car. I know the only thing in the end that matters is what you want to do to your car. I just personally wouldn't do it.
